Am I correct in assuming this package contains the 5 basic HD channels and your locals in HD for the quoted $69.99/mo price at D* website???

Right now I have an older total choice package that is $64.99 and I pay $9.99 more for the 7HD and $5.99 for my locals for a total of $81 +/-.

The "PLUS HD DVR" package is only $69.99 and if that contains the HD and HD locals thats $11 less!!!

Thanks for you help here.

The Plus HD DVR packages includes the HD Access as well as dvr service. You would also gain some SD channels over Total Choice. How did you get Total Choice at $64.99?

Have had it since day one I think. Been a subscriber for about 5 years. At work now so don't know exact date.

All I really care about are what HD channels come with the DVR package and if it includes locals in HD also.

Now I'm paying $64.99 +$9.99 HD Access(ESPN, ESPN2, HDNet, HDNet Movies, TNT, Discovery, & Universal) + $5.99 for locals NOT in HD.

The Plus HD DVR will include all the HD channels that you get now and will also include your locals.

I would say its time to change packages!
I have total choice w/ locals included for $47.99/mo, then $9.99 for HD Access. So by any means you are getting overcharged. Switching to the HD DVR package would do you good. :)

Unless you are getting a newer or have an H20 or HR20 you will not need the 5 lnb at this time. If you do get the 5 lnb with a receiver upgrade then the 3 lnb is no longer needed. The 5 lnb looks at the same sats + 2 more.

Don't I need the 5 lnb for locals in HD?? I've got an H10 now. Might as well go the the 5 and add HD DVR if the $$$ is right.

If you have a H20 or Hr20. The H10 is not going to get HD locals through the sat. It sounds like you need a receiver upgrade.

You may want to go with the HR20 HD DVR. You can check the website (log into your directv account and check Upgrade or Add Equipment section.) You may be offered the HD DVR+5LNB dish installed for $199, or the HR20 with 5LNB dish for free. You would need one of those receivers to get your locals in HD (if offered in your area).

You can also call the customer retention department who may get you the HD DVR for $99, or even free. Check the ordering thread in the HR20 forum.

If you do have the H10, should be able to get a good deal on the H20 (just HD receiver) possibly just the cost of shipping/ handling. You may want to look into the HR20 ( HD DVR) and see what type of deal you can get on it.

You will also (likely) receive NESN in HD when they broadcast games in HD -- assuming they broadcast in HD and that's your RSN.

Do you get SD Locals with the PLUS HD DVR package?

I've recently cancelled all of my premium packages and switched to Blockbuster total access unlimited. Here is what I'm currently paying:

LOCALS HD $0.00 / included w/Local Programming
DIRECTV DVR Service $5.99 / Monthly
HD Access $9.99 / Monthly
TOTAL CHOICE PLUS $51.99 / Monthly
Monthly Total $67.97 / Month

This is what the website I would pay if I chose the PLUS HD DVR plan, note that it says no locals and I get charged 9.99 still?

PLUS HD DVR - no locals $66.99 / Monthly
HD Access $9.99 / Monthly
LOCALS HD $0.00 / included w/Local Programming
DIRECTV DVR Service $0.00 / Price included in base package
Monthly Total $76.97 / Month

Is that right?

GFloyd exactly correct. In fact as I have HD now with D* and I get local HD OTA one of the reasons I want to switch is so I can get NESN that obviously I don't get now OTA.

premio I sent D* an email about half an hour ago with a bunch of specific questions as I don't feel like talking on the phone with them now but I will. At there website it says locals included with the PLUS HD DVR package but doesn't specifically say you get them in HD.

premio your package is exactly what I want. As I need to get the 5 lnb dish anyway I figured I might as well try to get the DVR for short $$$ rather than just switching from my 3 lnb H10 to the 5 lnb with the H20 that I can do for $0.

Is that right?

PLUS HD DVR includes HD access & DVR service. There's no $9.99 per month extra. It's why "HD" is in the title of the package. From the "learn more" description:

Our most popular entertainment package with DVR and HD service. Featuring the best in movies, sports, music, documentary, educational, specialty and family programming.
# Over 185 top networks, including 68 XM Satellite Radio channels.
# Enjoy TV on your terms with DVR service to pause and rewind live TV, record a season of your favorite show with the touch of a button and save up to 100 hours of programming - no discs or tapes needed.
# Get access to the best HD channels, including ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, TNT HD, Discovery HD Theater, Universal HD, HD Net, HD Net Movies, local HD channels and more sports in HD* than any other cable or satellite provider.
# HD channels that bring you picture clarity that's sharper than ordinary TV.

If it is showing an additional $9.99 for HD access after you select this package then something is wrong.
