This is the ONLY way it should be implemented, this is the ONLY way any new feature should be implemented from here on out.

That's correct.
I do have the good sense to manage my recorded programs to the point that nothing I want to save is in any danger of being pushed out by new material. If I do get to the point that disk space is an issue, I will add more disk space, but so far it's not a problem.

However, I can see where DLB may benefit some users who may be incapable or unwilling to manage their recordings and free disk space.

It seems to me you don't watch much sports, maybe I'm wrong. While I'm sure that all here are very thankful for your advice on how to manage disk space, many sports programs are quite long.

Some events are scheduled for as long as 6 hours. Say you want to watch two, simultaneous, 6 hour long MPEG2 programs, that's 40% of your disk space that the DVR will clear out when you press record. UNACCEPTABLE! Being that I actually use my HD-DVR, I often don't have 40% available. With DLB that usage would be 0% of my available disk space. To me, that is quite useful.

Oh, yeah, thanks for stopping by the thread. :nono2:

NFL is just around the corner. DLB would be a HUGE plus for the HR20 and the thousands and thousands of NFLST customers. 'nuf said...
DTV & NFLST since 97 at least, not looked back yet...

Finally! Finally you're acknowledging there's benefit to DLB! Everyone uses their DVRs differently,, so it's great that you don't mind checking that you have free disk space before simulating DLB. However, I have no interest in doing that, and neither do scores of other people here at DBSTalk. I'm betting that all of the DirecTV customers who migrate from HR10s to HR20s this fall also will have no interest in checking free disk space to "simulate" DLB. DLB can be implemented to avoid those hassles, so all DirecTV has to do ... is do it.

Great points cygnusloop. There should be no need to have to micro-manage a simple rolling live buffering process on two tuners.

I want all channels buffered all the time. At least 24 hours, but a week would be really nice.

I use to as my main channel surfing. Turn on CNN/E!/comedy and surf on the other one. Pause when I hit a commercial. Wife use it to watch Soaps. I bet more people use it then just for sports.

I apparently didn't express myself well. I didn't mean to imply that I only use it for sports. I, like you, use it to surf. I really don't like watching commercials on live TV. (OK, I'm not crazy about watching them recorded either.)

I just meant that when this subject is brought up, many say that they don't use it in general, but do use it for sports. Since D* seems to want to be the leader in sports programming, this feature seems to fit in with their marketing focus.

The kittens comment is a bit of an Internet classic. I believe it was started on Fark.com some years ago...only it wasn't about DLB threads

Other threads have discussed DLB infinitely.

Here are some of Earl's comments for you to peruse.

Impressive search skills. All posts from 5/30. The question was asking for an update, a question I second.

Personally, I would like to thank you for continuing to bump this thread. The more views, the better. Keep it up.
