As I've been taken to task by some parties here regarding my intent, my point or "what I'm trying to get at" due to my original poll asking about returned HR20s (Old, apparently biased poll) I've taken Drew's suggestion and I hope this will be meet with approval from the D* Police that cruise around our forum. :D

So let's try again. I apologize for my lack of fairness in the original poll and the need for yet another poll being created.

Please respond by date period of when you had to return a unit. You may pick multiple options. If you received your HR20 in Sept of 2006 and haven't had to return it, please indicate that for each time period. If you didn't have a HR20 for a particular period please indicate that fact. If you have had multiple HR20s replaced, please note that as a comment in the thread.

Talk about a complex poll. :nono2:

Drew, I didn't see any need for the "N/A" category as members shouldn't be voting for a specific period if they didn't own a HR20.

EDIT: Drew, after completing the poll options, and recalling that no one reads this first post before voting, I did add the "I didn't own one" option.

With a total of 95 voters at 2:30pm EDT 07/25/2007:
Section 1: 08/06-09-06: 10.7% return rate
Section 2: 10/06-11-06: 9.1% return rate
Section 3: 12/06-01/07: 10.4% return rate
Section 4: 02/07-03/07: 14.3% return rate
Section 5: 04/07-05/07: 15.9% return rate
Section 6: 06/07-07/07: 17.9% return rate

How does answering "no" for a time period help if you have to answer "yes" for another time period, sinc eyou can only vote once? Mine would be "No" for everything but 4"b"-

I think the intent is to see the ratio of replace/not-replace. Without getting the "no problem" response, then you will not know that information. Simply knowing the raw numbers of who/when of a replacement doesn't really say much at all. We don't know the number of folks @ DBSTalk.com with an HR20 and we don't know the number of HR20s that are in the field.

Replaced around Christmas. Everything was handled very professionally, I got a new, non-refurbed DVR, and it works better all the time!

This is a not a vote only once poll. You can, in fact should, vote multiple times in this poll. But preferably only once per section.

Cheers,
Tom

My original HR20-700 worked good until April when the hard drive went bad. I got it in November of 06. I also had this problem with Tivo's. They replaced it and have not had any major problem since then. I also have a HR20-100 that I got sometime in May and no problems with it.

That was a part of the first poll that was started about this and some members asked for a more detailed poll.

I don't understand why the date of return is so important. Presumbably returns are based on hardware failures. Have their been new revisions to the HR-20 700? If you're going to look at the date a machine was returned don't you want its date of manufacture? Units can sit in the channel for quite some time before being sold/installed. (Yes, I know it's hard to know the date of manufacture if you have already returned the device.)

BTW, as a reference point in the consumer electronics industry a return rate over 5% is very, very bad. When it starts getting over that rate retailers start balking at carrying the box or demand concessions from the manufacturer to cover the cost of processing returns.
I don't know if that's the case here...but those stickers about not returning to retail were sparked by something.

I think a lot of it has to do with the first 5 or so months the HR20 was out if you called about a problem the CSR's just swap them and did not really trouble shoot them. So there was a lot of units replaced that should not have been. So by having dates of when it was replaced it will separate some of the units that were replaced and probably should not have been.

HR20 replaced in June as a result of a bad OTA tuner. No hassles about getting a replacement and no problems since.

Well, I voted, but I missed all of the "didn't have for this period" spectacle.
This thing looks like the government put it together
