Internet Radio on HR20?
Posted 26 July 2007 - 08:51 PM
Is there a plan to someday allow us to access these stations?
Is it technically even possible?

Certainly technically possible, but I've heard no plans to provide Internet Radio access via the HR20. DirecTV probably feels that they already provide music choices via their XM Channels.
True enough but if they did allow it then it just opens up the amount of choices for their customers and adds advantage to what they can state they offer.
Imagine a commercial where they state unlimited access to music throgh XM and other internet radio stations. Rather then just the XM stations they offer now.
Unless it's in the contract that they can not offer other music channels than the XM offerings?

For example even if you could transcode the streams on the fly and stream it to the HR20, it might not accept media without a defined size. There is probably a radio stream media type in the DLNA spec's for this purpose, but because the HR20 only accepts lpcm, they probably aren't using it.
