Why would I ever want to switch to a new D* package?? New HD channels, maybe?

When D* came out with their new packages earlier this year, I was underwhelmed to say the least. They slightly renamed the packages, and changed the way the HD fee worked. From now on, the "HD fee" means that you get access to the HD versions of channels that you'd otherwise get, if they're available in HD. The new Choice package is essentially the same as Total choice, except it has about a dozen fewer (good) channels, and it's $2 more. Sorry, but no thanks.

I'll be happy to stay with TC for now, but what happens when there are new channels added that don't fit into any of the old package plans? A few come to mind (from the projected HD list sticky thread)
  • Big Ten Network (9/2007)
  • Tennis Channel (12/2007)
  • MGM Channel (Spring 2008)

Will I get these as part of the TC plan, or will I be FORCED to change to one of the newer plans? Any theories?

As it stands, the only other channels in the projected HD list that aren't currently part of TC are:
  • Chiller (9/2007)
  • Golf Network (9/2007)
  • Sleuth (Fall 2007)

We'll see what happens with those too... Chiller and Golf Network will be the first non-premium HD networks that will be rolled out to a smaller group of people (TC Plus, TC Extra and above)

Thoughts? Theories?

If I am forced to upgrade, I'll probably choose the Choice Xtra+HD+DVR. It's only $4 more than Choice, once you add in the DVR+HD fees.

Here's a spreadsheet I made comparing the old/new channel lineups from DirecTV. The current HD channels are in green, the projected HD channels are in yellow.

Thought someone else might find it interesting.

Make sure that when you upgrade, you STAY ON THE PHONE and FORCE the person to activate everything on your account

I upgraded and hung up.

Then my DVR wasnt activated all the sudden....fixed it and hung up
Then my locals didnt work...fixed it and hung up
Then my Extra Innings didnt work....then my HBO didnt work...

You get the idea....I literally kept forgetting everything

Doh!

No problem... I need to update it though. I used it to set up my favorites list last night (quasi-channels I get), and I realized that there are a few missing/additional channels included in TC. I'll see if I can put together an updated list.

Gems TV, Style, Reelz, Chiller, Sleuth, BET J - I will update the rest tonight. Thanks for the SS its a great resource

Ok, I updated the spreadsheet, and I think it's 99% accurate now... the only channel I'm not sure of is 604 - Men's Outdoor and Recreation. I'm not sure if it's part of Choice or Total Choice. (This list is much more up to date than D*'s site... so you won't find it there)

In the new spreadsheet, Choice Extra is the same as Total Choice Plus, and Choice Premier is the same as Total Choice Premier. The only one that appears to differ is Choice vs Total Choice.

I wouldn't mind maintaining this, if a moderator wanted to "sticky" it. I couldn't find anything else like it in the forum. I find it very useful for building my "favorites" or "channels I subscribe to" channel lists.

Thanks for that spreadsheet sdub. I have the Total Chioce Plus Package so I will keep my eyes on the Choice Extra package cause I did not know that was the one that lined up with mine.

I agree the spreadsheet should be in a sticky thread somewhere. If that happens please PM me so I can subscribe to that thread.

Thanks
