...and it's not a pretty sight

Embarrassment abounds all around when beautiful bimbo botches the news

August 21, 2007
BY DOUG ELFMAN
Television Critic, Chicago Sun-Times

As a feminist, I don't want to crassly bash a woman's appearance, but since the crass premise of
"Anchorman" is that the lead, Lauren Jones, is hot-hot-hot, I just have to say she's not-not-not.

Like Pam Anderson, Jones looks like a female female impersonator. She's good-looking from far
away, with dyed and straightened hair, mega-waxed eyebrows and glob makeup. That's TV pretty,
not actual pretty.

In other words, maybe she should anchor a local newscast in tiny Tyler, Texas. That's what a TV
station -- and Fox -- thought. They hired the former Bob Barker "beauty" to pack her sequined
bikini and take her Kabuki-ish theater there. ...

This just in...

Fox has yanked "Anchorwoman" less than 24 hours after the faux news reality-
comedy hybrid's less than stellar debut on Wednesday.

"Anchorwoman," chronicling swimsuit model Lauren Jones' dbid to become a
TV journalist in Tyler, Texas, came in a distant fourth with two back-to-back
episodes in the 8 p.m. hour. It averaged 2.7 million viewers and a 1.0 rating/3
share in the adults 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

The remaining six episodes of "Anchorwoman' "s eight-episode order will be
available on the Fox on Demand section of Fox.com and MySpace.com. Its
spot on the schedule will be taken by repeats of " 'Till Death."

In addition to heavy promotion, "Anchorwoman" received substantial pre-launch
publicity as its premise of a model-turned-TV anchor caused a stir in journalistic
circles and was accused of devaluing the work of serious journalists.

From what I heard, I did not want to watch this show... and I did not watch this show. However, in the interest of fairness... I must again ask/wonder why a network (FOX in this case) spends all that money on a show and promotions and then pulls it after one-shot?

I have seen shows I liked pulled in a similar fashion... but so people don't think I'm biased, I wanted to raise the question again about a show I don't like.

Once again the network folks prove they don't have much of a clue, greenlighting a project and spending money on a bunch of episodes only to pull the plug after the first night. How can they not know this would be so bad?

Think of shows they passed on that maybe they could have spent the money on in better fashion.

I saw her "interviewed" somewhere, probably on Fox News, and it looked to me that if she moved from the position that her face was molded into by all that makeup that it would fall off. Obviously, not a natural beauty, and, as I recall, a rather dim bulb upstairs too.

Dim bulbs save on energy...and call-brand drinks, and pricey dinners at
four-star restaurants, and expensive weekenders at West Palm Beach.

I can't believe a show this dumb would even make the cut. I doubt think there is anyone that could honestly say Anchorwomen would be the next X Files for Fox. Just like Caveman will not be the next NYPD Blue for ABC.
