Hey Guys,

While keeping an eye on the Blu-ray & HD-DVD war formats I saw this very intersting post on another site. Dig in.

DirecTV's new MPEG4 channel show up in guide (in engineering mode)

Posted Image

Ahh, the anticipation of new HD channels. DirecTV has many new channels planned in the coming months and unfortunately we'll have to wait to enjoy them. One well respected AVSForum member got a little treat after work today when he noticed that all the new channel assignments were showing up in the guide. Before you go running to check your guide, you should know that this particular person has a card which enables him to view what the engineers see -- hence the name engineering mode. We're not sure if he works for DirecTV, or how he obtained this card, but we'll be following this closely 'till all the HD goodness is delivered. Check out the full list of channels and their assignments after the jump.9800 CSTV

There is an interesting channel buried in that list: 9817 MSG.

This is the Cablevision owned home of the Knicks & Rangers. Didn't think we would see that HD channel on D*.

Yes, I saw that too, and FSNY is there too. That's GREAT news if its all true. The other intriguing one is NHL. As a huge hockey fan, is that the NHL Network? I know that has been rumored to come to the US for years, but I haven't seen it. I wonder if that will be available only to those of us who have the CI package (and, with the CI package, will we get the CBC/TSN broadcasts in HD as well?)

Man, I'm so excited by this!!! Are those channel functional or just in the list right now?

Not functional - just placeholders at the moment with no associated feeds attached. Also note that inclusion in this phase doesn't guarantee a corresponding channel in the short term when they fire up the HD channels.

The only absolute thing is it marks the completion of a necessary step before the first wave of HD channels start coming online.

I see some of us on here are questioning the RSN's that are showing up. They may be there as a placeholder for whatever Superfan package ( Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey) in the near future.

I noticed yesterday that my HR20's, on the check signal strength screen now, in effect, show "two" satellites at 103, namely "103(a)" and "103(b)". I'm assuming this represents a-band and b-band.

The "(a)" is what has always been there. The "(b)" has lots of transponders defined, all of them read "0".

Getting close! :)

There already is a satellite at 103. This new satellite at about the same location is for the new HDs. - I think!
