I was under the Impression that their original shows (Tyler Perry, My Boys) were shot in HD, and they'd be able to show their reruns of shows that were shot in HD (The Office, later seasons of Everybody Loves Raymond and such).

I was thinking the exact same thing, guess we'll find out pretty soon

Ditto the Stretch-o-Vision comments. Why do they think that we prefer a stretched image over pillar boxes. Sure, I guess a lot of the unwashed masses don't understand it, but at least I can switch over to the SD version for the Original Aspect Ratio.

I'm getting both 17 and TBS. Starting Oct 1 ( I think? ) channels 17 and TBS will be two separate channels with 17 ( peach tv ? ) geared more to Atlanta. TBS will still be a superstation with slightly different programing. Channel 17 still comes in crappy and TBS while not HD is a digital quality pix. It looks like 17.1 does OTA. 17 thru DTV sat local was always the worst SD channel I received ( more like 1970's cable ).

As of this AM, no closed captioning on the HD version of this channel. (There is on the SD version).

I really thought that this was the worst of the bunch. The Steve Harvey Show, which is what was on this morning, looked like somebody was showing a crappy you tube video instead of a network show. It was very pixelated and just plain horrible looking.

yes peachtree tv. don't know for sure, but you're probably getting 17 as well because it's a broadcast channel in your market ... and the whole FCC "must carry" saga...

We have this lame HD video loop at work, and one of the segments is from TBS and has My Boys, Monk, and Tyler Perry something or other. The only thing I watch on there anyway is Seinfeld and Family Guy reruns, hopefully their upconverts won't be worse than the SD station. Although My Boys is not that bad and that chick should look pretty good in HD.

I hope that D* does not get rid of the SD TBS as the HD TBS where the show is not recorded in HD is stretched and I hate watching People that look like they are twice as wide as they are tall. Why to stations think they need to stretch 4:3 content when they display on an HD formatted station. It would be better if stations would broadcast in the natively recorded format so we can choose to have a picture stretched or not by our TV or at least just add bars to the sides of 4:3 content. HD will never be a hit if all our older shows are in such as FAT stretched mode. Others may not feel this way but to distort the picture and not have any way for the end user to readjust it to its normal aspect ratio is not good in my opinion. I guess I will have to keep watching the SD TBS for asa long as it is offered. I think that if TBS does not fix this problem, D* ought to get rid of the station as it is not really an HD station in my opinion.

I am all for getting rid of stretched TV even on the other channels. At least as one member stated, TNT does not look this bad as its SD on HD content is cleaner looking.

There's a simple solution to TBS's stretchovision, set your TV to 4:3 with the picture size button

problem solved

of course you'll have to change your TV back to 16:9 when you change channels or there's a real WS program on TBS HD

What kind of TV do you have? My TV is a Sony LCOS and it does not have a picture size button. The size of the picture is determined by the content stream for HD steams. I would be surprise if your TV is really down-converting 1080i or 720p into 480i/p. The HR20 might be doing this if set on a non-native setting and one uses the Format button on the HR20 remote but I have my HR20 set on native mode on and is driven by the content stream with is stretch-o-too-much.

Stations need to stop stretching content when upconverting to HD from SD. Shows are much more enjoyable when round objects are round and people are not from the planet overly-wide. Eventually all content that is new will be shot in a widescreen HD format but until then just send the native aspect of the actual material and let the customer decide to stretch or not.

That will not work on TBSHD and TNTHD because they stretch the picture more at the ends and not at all in the center. It's like watching TV through a cheap wide-angle lens.

What I would like to know is how the people who produced the shows they are doing this to feel about there stuff being butchered. I know I would not be happy.

Im down for that. Let's hope they make it happen.
TBSHD IMO is the worst of the bunch. I missed Seinfeld today. Curious
as to how that looks.
