An informant high in the ranks of DTV called me yesterday proclaiming the launch would take place today in the wee hours of the morning. After being out late at a concert I had neither the will or the energy to set my alarm any earlier than my usual 8am but at 4:01am compeled by some unatural force I sat straight up in bed turning on the TV and scanning for the new channels in the guide.... nothing and my heart sank at the disapointment. Cursing in lust for HD I stumbled to the kitchen and as I brewed a shot of esspresso and read the morning news online I heard the familiar "click click" of my TV changing resolutions... Boiling coffee in hand I hurridly tripped over my obese cat, burned my hand on my drink fell and hit my head on the couch... and in sitcom fashion I peaked over the back of the sofa mouth dropped open CNN in HD. Slightly concussed and burned my cat and I sat on the ottoman staring as we filped throught the new channels... I hurriedly dressed and turned on animal planet and left for work proclaiming the new HD to everyone I met like scrooge on Christmas day!

Looks like some great contenders, so far... keep 'em coming! I'll be judging the contest at 5:00 PM PDT Friday, 9/28 so you have a little while. Get those creative juices flowing!
Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect
those of DBSTalk.com, DIRECTV, DISH, The Signal Group, or any other company.

Twas the Night Before HD....

Twas the night before HD, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a clicking mouse;
The posts were made by the users with care,
In hopes that DirecTV HD soon would be there;
The subscribers nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of brilliant pictures dancing in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long summer’s nap,
When out of DBSTalk there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed and ran to the computer to see what was the matter.
Away to my living room I flew.
Could it really be true?

The moon reflecting of my favorite show,
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But posts a flying by impatient subscribers, is HD finally here?

With my computer, HR20 and eSata drive,
I knew in a moment it D10 must be live!

More rapid than eagles the signals they came,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Lefty! now, Sixto! now, RAD and Eagle!
On, Smthkd! on Harsh! on, Ken984 and syphix and all the others too!

The 5-LNB dishes on top of the roof so tall!
Now channel surf away! surf away! surf away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the entertainment center full of high-tech toys, and DirectTV HD too.

And then, in a twinkling, across the nation
The glistening and Dolby of each glorious HD station.
As I drew in my hand, and was surfing around,
And through the sky came DirecTV HD with crystal sound.
It was brilliant color on my DLP
The wonderful new picture was bright as could be;

A bundle of HD channels for all,
Just in time for NFL Football.
All the hardware updated.
Their eyes -- how they twinkled!
And oh, how they had waited, Spending endless hours explaining KA-band;
and other stuff we still don’t really understand.
But it didn’t really matter, the channels were so crystal clear,
All the viewers, they were finally happy;
Their days of waiting were through
All of the colors were now in perfect hue
After hundreds of thousands of posts, what next?
I guess its back to complaining about D* CSRs and install techs.

Its time to move on, bigger better things await
There’s still VOD, 1080p, more channels to create.
Laying their left hands on the remotes, their right hands on their mouse’s,
I don’t expect these guys will ever leave their houses.
In the living room they sit, planting themselves on the couch,
Sitting there for hours, even days, each one a big ol’ slouch.

And, then they all heard one lone lurker exclaim…
"HD for all, and to all a good-night."
It's not TV it's HDTV

As a dedicated HD viewer and 11 year D* customer I must say that this is the most useless sticky I have ever seen in any forum, and can we please make it any more cliche ridden or what? as well as the feeble attempts to be funny which are as original as TNT's programming. What a waste of webspace

Infidels! You cowards have no morals! You have no shame about lying!

There are no HD signals falling from the sky. Be assured, HD-Lite is safe, protected.

You villains are not seeing anything that is not already not there.

DBSTalk is all about lies! All they tell is lies, lies and more lies!

Go ahead and bask in your illusion.

"I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of sending high definition television into space and returning it safely to our living rooms."

"We choose to watch HD. We choose to watch HD in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too."

4 out 5 Optometrists agree, HD.

I would have gone with:

"HD TV is recommended by four out of five optometrists for their patients who watch TV...No wait...the fifth optometrist caved, and now they're all recommending HD."
