Woohoo!!! They are here, the first group of many new HD channels from DIRECTV!

Tell us what you think about them as a group. But, please no "I got them!" posts here, see if you are up to The "I Got Them!" Challenge

For a full list of the channels and their individual discussion threads, check out the The list of Launched Channels.

If you are having problems, you might want to start with the Troubleshooting Tips for the New HD Channels].

Oh, and if your favorite channel wasn't launched yet, check out the following discussion thread:

HD Discussion: Channels that didn't launch - 9/26/2007

Enjoy!

Surprised no National Geographic and MHD in the first wave since we've seen previews over the past few months.

Also Food and HGTV absent, both are -1 channels. Any thoughts. Still working out the kinks maybe?

So, just to get this straight... The old channel numbers are still simulcast in MPEG2 and the new numbers MPEG4? So, ESPNHD 73=MPEG2, ESPNHD 206=MPEG4; HBOHD 501 now MPEG4?
I love the smell of HD in the morning!

I'm thrilled to have the new HD programming. My only (minor) issue so far is that the default channel on my H20 receivers is the SD channel. For example, if I input 220 for the Big Ten Network, I get the SD channel and I need to hit up for the HD channel. I don't have this issue with my HR20 receivers.

I know. MHD was probably the only one I was looking for. Now bring on FX so Nip Tuck will be in HD

What I had to do to fix this was to set up my favorites and to only show the channels that I get. For those channels that have the SD first, I just remove the SD channel and only show the HD channel. It's a pain, but works great after the initial setup.

I totally agree. The only downside for me, if you can even call it that, is now I have to redo all my Season Passes to record the HD feed. All in all though, I will happily do that as the picture looks great! :)

Anyone know anything about NESN in HD. I was told that it would be included in the 1st rollout. I called and the CSR from retention said I should be getting it. I have all the other new HD channels but not that one.

I waited as long as I could, but had to leave for work at 5:50AM... Otherwise the DC traffic on 270 would have eaten me alive!

So with any luck, I will be post #4928976401 stating "I got them, and they look great!" when I get home at 7:30 tonight.

If you have favorites setup, you'll need to add the HD equiv of each of these channels to get them to show up in the guide. Even then, there are a lot of shows in the guide which are in HD but dont have the HD tag on them, this isn't a new problem though.

My question is, is there any benefit to having both the SD and the HD versions of a channel in your favorites? The programming should be identical, just in different formats, right?

It is there on my channel list, NESNH, 623. It was listed before the rollout.
