No popular movies? Lets remember MGM has all the Bond movies and I see there is a double header soon. This is excellent. If I *ONLY* watch James Bond movies on MGMHD it will justify the $5/month price for this package. Easily.

IMHO most of the movies that the public thinks of as "popular" have long been available from other sources. It's the lesser-known ones that I'm looking forward to.

Let's not make the mistake of confusing "popular" with "good.";)

Equipment includes a buncha stuff that I no longer have interest in detailing

And here I thought I'd need a Blu-ray player to get MGM movies in hi-def. Guess not. Now if only there were a Disney HD movie channel and a Sony HD movie channel.

My thoughts exactly. One less reason to take the Blu pill as I have an HD-A2 as well.

Goldfinger and From Russia with Love on Oct. 19 woo hoo! I was hoping to eventually get the Bond movies on this channel, but 2 of the best right off the bat is more than I expected.

Directv since 1996

I can honestly say that this will be the channel my wife and I will watch the most. I probably would not have paid the extra $4.99 for HDnet and the others. But with this channel included, I most definitely will.

Video is only one half of the equation. Dolby Digital 5.1 is a far cry from uncompressed, lossless (up to) 192kHz / 24 bit audio.

My wife and I rented this in Blu-Ray when we first bought the PS3, we were amazed in the quality of this film compared to the original. It was probably the 30th time iI have seen the movie, and I saw things I had never seen before. I can not imagine that the MGM channel will even compare to the Blu-Ray version.

Expectations of seeing those “classic” MGM films here should be lowered as most of the ”gold” --- the pre-1986 MGM film library [back to the 1920’s] is owned by Turner, which is part of Time-Warner.

MGM does have an extensive film library, albeit non-MGM films pre-1986. Still excited about this channel and hope it pushes Turner to TCM-HD!

Stargate (movie) is distributed by Lionsgate. I don't think MGM has any rights to it. If this channel ever explores their television library (like Universal HD) you might see SG-1 and Atlantis.

Maybe, but the overwhelming majority of people wouldn't perceive any significant difference even if they heard it on a high end home theater system, and certainly not on their $500 home theater in a box system.

That's what I was thinking. Who cares if it's full uncompressed audio? Almost no one has a theater system good enough to take advantage of the difference. And as you said, on top of that, almost no one would be able to hear the difference, even if they did have one.

First thing I saw when I got up this morning: Billion Dollar Brain. One of the inspirations for Austin Powers.

Good start. :)

This was one of my first BD titles I purchased. I love the movie, and the series as well. I think it is titles like this and the Bond movies that will make this channel great. There are also some MGM classics that I would love to see.
