Someone must've pressed the wrong button somewhere. Halfway through the pregame show tonight it switched to BTNHD and then the DirecTV slide.

Just because the are the only choice to be your "home" team doesn't justify the RSN territories being changed. It all come down to what advertisements that they want you to see. Morgantown is close to Pittsburgh so they see SW Pennsylvania advertising.

West Virginia easily divides into three parts for sports.

The northern third of the state, consisting of the Wheeling-Weirton area and the Fairmont-Clarksburg-Morgantown area, is historic Pittsburgh country. Pirates and Steelers. The eastern "panhandle" (which is in the Washington DMA) has always been Orioles/Redskins territory. The southern half of the state, which represents about 70% of the population, is Reds. In football, back in the pre-merger days, the Browns were the NFL team, and in modern times it splits between the Bengals and Steelers. The state has never taken much note of the NBA or NHL on a home team basis. In recent years, the economic situation has tied the southern part of the southern half of the state to the North Carolina Triad-Triangle-Metrolina regions, and some following of the Panthers has developed. If Charlotte or the Triad ever got a baseball team, it would have a following there.

The division is easy because the population centers are bounded by large swaths of pretty much unoccupied land, so the drawing of a black line border is not necessary. Unfortunatly the claims of the various teams overlap with crazy overinclusive zones, and the cable companies don't care.

For a long time, the Morgantown cable company carried Home Sports Entertainment and Orioles/Caps games instead of KBL/Prime for Pirates/Penguins. During the cup runs people had to head to sports bars to see the Pens in action.

I'm enjoying the Pens playing Carolina in beautiful HD! (Update: Pens win in a shootout)

The only thing missing is the voice of Mike Lange...

Buy Sam a drink and get his dog one too! :D

Wow, thats too bad. Thanks for the quick response though. Does that mean I can't watch it live either? And was I just lucky that it didn't get blacked out the one time I recorded it. Oh well, it was a bonus anway. I do love the Sunday Ticket.

Unfortunately, both the Mike Tomlin show and the Mike Tomlin Press Conference are blacked out to anyone outside the Pittsburgh market. This is an NFL mandated rule. I'm not sure how you got the Mike Tomlin show once. As for the Mike Tomlin Press conference, FSN Pittsburgh replays it on Tuesdays during Savran on Sportsbeat and it ISN'T blacked out then. Only the live press conference at Noon is affected.

It was a mistake on DirecTV's part. This mandate is just another example of the anti-fan broadcast rules that exist today. Don't mind us...we just pay the bills....all the bills.

I'm showing Fox Sports PGH HD on 628-1. The guide shows "to be announced" and when I tune to the channel I get a black screen. Any idea what the problem is?

I guess I should have looked back a little further. It looks like they only turn it on when they have HD content to broadcast and don't upconvert SD programing.

Wow - the Gateway-Central Catholic game was outstanding. That was an incredible comeback by the Gators in HD. The Taglianetti kid is a heck of a player for PCC. I wonder if the state playoffs will be televised and in HD?

Going on what has been done in prior years, the state final will be televised, but not in HD and not on D*. There is a network in PA only available via cable called PCN and that has always shown the state finals in the past.

On a side note, the games in HD were probably nice (and much warmer than watching in person!) It was 20 degrees yesterday in Heinz Field which is were I was for the first game!

Another thing that is impressive is that the WPIAL games were the only ones I have seen in HD for high school football. Fox Sports West does a game of the week that are in SD on the HD channel and the Michigan games were in SD also.

I believe this was the first time in HD for the WPIAL football. FSP did a game of the week every Thursday and one playoff game last week and they were all SD.

Maybe next year more high school will go HD... definitely worth it.

I'm sure in this case that it helped that the games are played at Heinz Field.
