I bought my tv 3 years ago in a super going out of business sale. 55" panasonic for $350. Brand new, no refurb, in the box. What I did not know is that it will not do 720 i or p. So if a program is shown in 720 what happens. My dvr is set for 1080 only and if I am watching a show in hd and I switch to sd it makes a definate difference in picture even though the show is shown in 720. What is happening here?
Don't tell my wife I'm on the internet again.

I assume it will do 1080i??
If so set everything to output at 1080i on the hr-20 and you should be good to go

Your DVR is upconverting(not really, but lack of better term) the signals to 1080i. So the 720P show is actually being shown in 1080i instead of how it was supposed to be shown, 720P. The DVR seems to upscale SD resolutions pretty well, but its not the best HD upscaler.
