Yep, never been able to track real PID load, but as I just posted, I do now think that it's a reasonable assumption that a handful of transponders will use 4 HD, instead of 5, to provide extra bandwidth for special needs. Each has 3 or 4 Cinema HD that get re-allocated for part-time needs.

The DirecTV guys/gals are probably chuckling now ... that after 9 months I finally noticed! :) (but wasn't until today that I finally had the data during NFL Sunday Ticket).

Is there a list of the number of hours per day each HD channel shows? Judging by the guide, many HD channels show very little in HD. Just irks me they take up an HD slot, while my Hoosiers are unfortunately being shown on ESPNU blurovision tomorrow, when ESPNU HD is availble for DirecTV to add.

yes, it is disappointing that there are some channels that show more HD than some of the channels that D* currently offers. Hopefully that will be fixed in the next 6 months and definitely by next football season.

While not particularly authoritative, this is the best attempt anyone has made thus far: http://www.whereishd.com

Look up the channel in the table and the column on the right is the estimated percentage of HD offered. It is based on looking at the guide listings from one of the services and calculating percentages based on the number of programs that claim to be in HD versus the entire schedule.

That is interesting. According to that site Direct has more HD channels than any other provider in my area, 12 more than Dish and 10 more than FiOs

Take a look at this thread on AVSForum.

That is probably why DIRECTV used it for a time as evidence of their claimed higher HD channel count.

Note that it leaves out channels on both services, but manages to include 16 NFL Sunday Ticket channels and calls them all "HD Ready".

They're setting up for the NFL today.

16 NFL Sunday Ticket HD, 15 took Cinema slots, NFL Mix took MLB Mix slot.

Additional UEFA was added during the week (inactive right now), and the 55xx's were removed earlier in the week as well. 97xx's are for NFL.

Do expect that additional part-time will be turned on during the day. 3pm ET may be the peak for calendar year 2009.

This is a very interesting day. The guide seems to indicate that not only will the 5 remaining 138-158 Cinema slots (21 total) be used, but they will also need to dip into the 125-130 range for at least one more slot. That would lower the "replacement candidate" projection from 6 to at least 5.

Been looking forward to this day for quite some time, to give us the true indicator of full-time bandwidth availability.

So are you saying that all of the HDPPVs are being used today? Or is there 5 left over? I'm still a little confused. Thanks.

There are 28 Cinema HD. 1 is the old Versus slot which will probably be used for Versus or something new.

Of the remaining 27, expect 22 to be used for NFL, HotPass, and MLB today. Will know the exact number within the next few hours.

Ok, so you're saying they left 5 HDPPVs on yesterday then, they still had to serve the HDPPV customers, correct?

I'll get this figured out yet. ;)

There are 5 unused HD slots and my Hoosiers game had to be shown on ESPNU blurovision? Why can't at least the games on ESPNU gets temp use of one of the HD slots?

+1, ESPNU HD would stop the bleeding from the Versus dispute IMO.

Yeah, gives us ESPNU. A couple weeks ago I had to watch my favorite team play in some real low rez crappy SD on ESPNU. ESPNU seems to have some of the worse SD.

Just glad to see the day that D12 is up and operational....perhaps reducing the channel bandwidth musical chairs...
