Sorry, but that's not what I meant by manufacturer codes...I meant the codes that come after the model number of the receiver

for example, HR20-XXX

XXX being the manufacturer of the receiver.

Try these:

-800 NEC

Yes... they are the manufacturer codes for the company that builds that particular unit

They're the "dash" numbers on the D* receivers for who made it.
HR20-700
HR20-100
H21-200
etc.

Directv adds these to the model number to distinguish the manufacturer of the unit. Although all units of the same model (HR20, etc.) are nominally identical, there are minor differences between the units made by different manufacturers, including the software.

Amusing though - if you call D* and ask, they apparantly have no clue.

They will just tell you they manufacture them themselves. WHATEVER!!

If D* manufactured them, explain why the different models, 100, 500, etc... all have different software released for them.

This just about covers anything you call about.

I think you can erase 100. Thomson just announced they're no longer making consumer products.

VOS,

Yep...deal closes the end of the year. I think they paid under $20M. I don't know what Audiovox is going to do.

Kind of a sad end for the guys that invented color TV.

I'm sure that there are few fine folks at DIRECTV that know what this all means :).
