easy, really.

Read all the networking/WMP11 PDFs and threads. Thank you Earl and Spanky!

HR20-700 - latest national software release
Windows XP Pro sp2 up to date
Zone Alarm Pro firewall - not an issue
WMP11
Linksys BEFSR41 4 port router (the cable modem, mine and my wife's PCs)
cable modem (Cox)
50 ft of CAT6 (same price as the CAT5 so I went for the fatter wires) $18.95 at Frye's Electronics
pack of cable clamps - $1.85 at Home depot

layed out and plugged in the cable. ran network setup and succesful test
set up sharing on the WMP
saw the On Demand menu right away - no content, no Music and Pictures
did an RBR - Music and Pictures shows up and plays!
after an hour the DoD started populating.
