I can afford cable but I choose not to pay $100+ a month for 4 channels I don't otherwise get for free OTA. 3 of those channels I can watch their shows on Hulu + (with a delay at times). The other channel chooses not to make their shows available online anywhere unless you log in with a cable...

RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

There are 3-4 tuner cable card adapters you can get. Nothing for satellite. Ton of solutions for HD for OTA and clear QAM though.

I'm a displaced fan too. And a huge NFL fan. But I just can't justify the cost of ST after it got above $250 or so. We are all in different financial situations obviously. But for $400 I can go to the bar a LOT with the guys and still see my Bears lose. ;)
  5. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
The HRxx certainly had it growing pains in the early days. One thing to keep in mind though, Tivo writes the software, DirecTV just pushes out what Tivo sends them. So I'm not sure how to blame DirecTV much on this other then their additional QA didn't catch it (Tivo's QA certainly should...

I voted with my wallet. This is my 2nd year without Sunday Ticket and frankly I'm just fine. NFL Red Zone channel on Uverse is great and I've been to the bar a couple times with friends (I would have went anyway even if I had ST). Saved a ton of money and I don't miss it.

Pricing...isn't there also the standard DVR fee per account to pay as well? Basically the fees for this are the same as the DirecTV DVR with the additional $5 Tivo fee, correct?
  8. Gaming Fun - The Other Reality
Thanks for the info and link. I'll buy it day one if it's cheap enough. Played many, many hours of Bard's Tale and Ultima on the C64...

My wife picked up the DirecTV UI on the HR20 in less then an hour and she like it more then Tivo. While waiting you could have gotten one to play with and see how it goes. Then again neither me or my wife care what the UI is. After Tivo we easily went with the HR2x. Then se adapted quickly...

The one I had grabbed both pre-game and the game itself and not post game shows. Reason is because the pre-game show is called "Red Wings Live" and the games itself had "live" in the guide data to indicate it wasn't a repeat. Thus just the additional keyword of "live" captured both. The post...

Wishlists weren't channel specific (it was the whole point). Season pass is of course channel specific. Just like on the HR2x a series link is channel specific while an auto record search is not channel specific (like a whishlist) *however* you can very easily limit the channel range which...

All you can do is keep reading. There is a very large HTPC forum at AVS Forums with a ton of info. HTPC = Home Theater PC OTA = Over the air...as in an antenna. Main way people get HD with a HTPC if they don't have cable. Setting one up isn't for the faint of heart. I had to become a near...

Used Veetle quite a bit a couple years ago when I was IPTV only. There is a plugin you need to install that is available for all browsers. I got most of my live sports thru Veetle. If he's still broadcasting check out ZuesTV, he does good HD streams.

Well that will *never* happen with DirecTV anyway since the content providers will screen bloody murder and DirecTV will open a whole can of worms they don't want. So if that's a key feature then plan now to not have it or plan to move on where you can have a stand alone Tivo.

I don't disagree that a dedicated slo-mo button would be nice. I just don't know anyone that uses slo-mo. And we watch a lot of hockey in the great white north called Michigan. ;) But I obviously don't know everyone. LOL Perhaps demographic data DirecTV has done shows that like PIP, the...

Ya know, I don't actually get this. Being a sports fan and obviously know a lot of sports fans, very few (and I never do) use the slo-mo option on any DVR I've had. The game broadcast itself shows endless slo-mo's of big plays, why do I want to bother with trying to slo-mo myself? Anyway...

Well, finally did the deal and canceled Netflix all together. I already went to disc's only but I want nothing to do with Qwickster or whatever stupid name they are calling it now. Between movie channels I get with Uverse and RedBox I got it all covered.

I think he's referring to wishlists as noted a few pages back. I had the same issue, none of my several DirecTivo's would record sports reliably via wishlists and I resorted to using the wishlist as a "saved search" and manually chose to record the games. Many have the same experience. No...

I think all that other stuff is the root of your problem...remote wise at least. I had issues until I changed my cordless phone to a higher frequency (5.2?). I think it's pretty obvious you have a ton of interference going on. Go IR and see how it goes.

Was just about to post the same thing. This new DirecTivo is just an HR22 with the Tivo software on it. Exact same hardware that Maruuk has had issues with. Tivo software can't magically fix hardware issues. As for me, I had my first Tivo way back in 2000. Had several DirecTivo's over the...
