Does anyone know who manufactures their boxes? I'm wondering if it's someone like Kathrein.

I think the publisher's name was Kevin, and he stopped publishing to go in to some sort of internet-business related consulting. Sorry to say, I threw out all of my issues several months ago. I thought it was a great mag.

The DM-100 is a Dolby Bitstream Analyzer. It decodes the DD bitstream, Dolby-E bitstream, or (plain-old) Digital audio. If you are trying to take the L-Band RF signal from a dish, it won't work. You'd need to receive the satellite signal with a receiver that outputs the PCM (Digital Audio) or...

Lots of folks write the codes down on a label stuck inside the battery compartment.

You can buy colored rings that snap on the connectors, for color coding. Also, colored tape works well....I've used those little 3M Scotch-Code dispensers, with ten colors on a single unit. What I like to do outdoors, is use very small cable ties to "number" the lines. Up to five ties in a row...

Maybe he should have an OTA antenna installed at his home.....is he talking about his home in Washington or in SC?

My comment about radio DJ's was due to the fact that radio and TV are both part of the Broadcast industry, and radio has already fallen greatly, due to the lack of advertising income, and the excess regulations that their competitors do not face. I see the same path being taken by the Television...

You mean, "Like radio stations still have staffs of live DJ's, and do big remotes....."? Truth is, many stations are barely surviving only due to the retrans money they get. Without it, plenty of stations would just have to close their doors. The "numbers" in the ratings are only a...

There's nothing "magic" about the Leaf antenna. Just use an outdoor version of a one-bay or two-bay "bowtie" antenna, which is designed to go outside. They are equal.

I switch back and forth, between the CD Player (I keep two or three favorite CD's in the glove box), and doing early-morning AM MW DX'ing. I like to listen to Radio Australia programming via CBC Canada (540 KHz), and KRVN (880) in Nebraska, among others. Last listened to a CD a day or two ago.

Looks like WALA-TV is the local pickup point. Anybody with an antenna know if they are on the air?
  13. DIRECTV Programming
I just looked at the weather satellite...........Wow! Might be a power outage at the local pickup point (usually a local TV station's studio, or the local telephone company).
  14. Internet Streaming Services
It would just mean that your local stations would all be home shopping channels, and there would be no news, no local production and no one to answer the phone when you call them. Think "Mega-Corp radio".....

I have my dishes on the balcony, so they don't get too much snow ON them. Might get a dropout rarely, when the snow that's falling is very, very wet and dense. A little bit blowing on to them does no harm. A big dish would be hard to aim and stabilize, but would have a lot of gain. A KU-band DBS...

I still have fond memories of our family sitting down (adults on the sofa, kids on the floor) to watch Red Skelton, Lawrence Welk, and the Billy Graham Specials. Those were regularly scheduled "family events". :righton:

Could be some kind of battery charger or power supply. Is there a charger on a phone close by? That could cycle on and off when the battery is fully charged. Also, chargers on those solar cell systems (on people's roofs) can cycle on and off when they are near fully charged.

There may be some setting for "Digital Output" of the receiver, that asks if you want "PCM" (regular old stereo digital audio), or "Dolby Digital Bitstream". There may even be a mismatch between the settings in the receiver and in the AVR setup, too. You probably want "Auto-select" or something...

"SD Commercial", or "LOCAL commercial"......? The major networks transmit a Spanish-language/Descriptive-video channel to their affiliates. They run Spanish occasionally, but it's mostly used for the Descriptive-Video Service for the visually impaired viewers. That's the stuff where you can hear...
  20. Legislative and Regulatory Issues
If satellite and cable had their way, there would be NO local stations or broadcasters, and you'd just pay extra for everything. The only thing keeping many local stations alive is retrans fees.
