  1. Tech Talk - Gadgets, Gizmos and Technology
My present guess is that the reason I can't find a "disable touchpad" option under settings > devices > mouse is that my computer does not detect my touchpad at present, thus it cannot be disabled/enabled. That can be either a conductor problem or a component problem. I'll have to see what...

But can you find a place in y0ur control, panel to disable the touchpad. That is considered an important capability because some people accidentally hit it with the heels of their palms

Not under warranty. I am not going to mail the computer in for repair until someone first shows me how to disable and re-enable the touchpad. If they don't know that, then they cannot definitively diagnose that it needs physical repair.

On a lark, I tried johnpjones and Google/gmail recognized it as an e-mail address that I had created. Who knows when I might have done that? I went to that mailbox but it was empty. It is NOT the gmail/e-mail address that Uber uses for me.

I just confirmed that my gmail address is. in fact (or in format, actually) johnpauljones@Gmail by accessing my uber account on my phone. Gmail/google makes it easy to try other e-mail google accounts, and I tried all four of my other e-mail addresses but none were recognized. Is there any...

That's the way I tried. It "opens" or connects me to "my google account". in which I used a pseudonym (say, Joe Blow) and beneath that it says, "Choose your e-mail address", and when I enter my personal iteration of johnpauljones@gmail.com, that is when it says that is already taken. FWIW...

A few months ago, I couldn't get a cab to pick me up at a hospital late at night, but a helpful orderly suggested that I call for an Uber. I had never done so previously. He said I needed the Uber "app" downloaded into my cellphone but when he tried to do that, he found I did not have a G-mail...

This is the third HP laptop on which my mouse/touchpad became disabled. With the two previous laptops, I had no trouble finding the disable function and toggling the touch pads back on. But with this late model HP, I simply can't find the disable/enable control. Each time I Google search for...

Here is what I remember or think I remember from way back. The seemingly short connectors are the original length compression connectors. Everybody else who wanted to make compression connectors decided to make theirs a little longer because of some aspect of the design.patent that seemed to...

At a length of 10 feet you can use any coax for clothesline and it will hold up. I used to occasionally use Aerial RG-11 cable when stringing master antenna system distribution wiring between tall buildings. It had a so-called "messenger wire" molded to it to take the strain. That support...

I didn't know that the Boston DISH Network Spot was from 61.5. If it was from their first two slots, at 110 or 119, the oval would be longer and thinner than DirecTV's and would probably reach, but from 61.5 it would be rotated the other way and surely not reach.

Here is the site. DTV Spots Map The name given is Scott Seligman, and the last date given for updated data entry is/was: Last updated: 1:19 PM 10/14/2006.

You may have some luck further investigating this yourself by search for the term "scottandmichelle", which was the name term of the site's "URL", if I am using that term correctly. I used to follow the development of the beams closely, and when the data first started coming in, the transponder...
  16. General DISH™ Discussion
Back when DirecTV began using Ku spot beams that were broadcast from the 101 degree slot, some enterprising hobbyist developed some kind of DirecTV customer signal strength evaluator in which which anyone could enter his location (zip code, I believe) and signal strength readings, and this...

It could be that they just collared that last guest for a live segment at the end, though you'd think that top dollar "talent" like Williams would be at Newport of somewhere on the Friday of Fourth of July weekend.
  19. TV Show Talk
Incorrect. On tonight's rebroadcast, Brian Williams just thanked his final guest for making himself available at 5:54 AM in Vienna, Austria, meaning it had been live. And as I am typing this, Williams just spoke of something I could do to make sure I never miss his show, which is surely...

A few days ago, a neighbor who I had done some favors for came by and insisted that I let him hook up some kind of "stick" that got me access to every TV program that has ever been made and every one that ever will be made. Something like that. I have no idea what it was. I'd been too busy to...
