For me it has. I had a 622 and 722 previously, and had an EHD on each. One I used actively, and disabled sleep on it 2-3 years ago, and it was fine ever since. The other drive on the other unit I had just used to temporarily move some programs around... and I never bothered to disable sleep...

Aside from the fact my comment was tongue-in-cheek... You can always carve out multiple independent volumes, as we just verified the Hopper can mount more than 1 EHD. -sc

Somebody needs to build an iSCSI-to-USB Mass Storage bridge so I can just connect my hoppers to my SAN storage array. :) -sc

I too had to disable sleep on my Seagate drives. Download the utility for my Windows PC, install it just long enough to change the drive configuration, and then promptly uninstall their craptastic software...

Ah, ok... so it sounds like programming with the HDCP flag set isn't uncommon. I'd recommend that Dish implement a change so that the behavior is confined to what you experience: restrict content on PLAYBACK only. Restricting recording doesn't provide any additional protection value, and only...

I only saw it for one movie I attempted to record. I assumed it was because the flag requiring encryption was set for that event. I know that playback devices such as BluRay can refuse to play back (at least at full res) to displays that don't support HDCP... so I assume that the DVR's can as...

Thanks for the responses all... Hopefully the discussions here might prompt Dish to move that direction if they haven't planned it already. The Joey's can see the EHD of the Hoppers, so it would seem possible from a technical perspective... At first I thought the fact that the EHD was labeled...

I just ran in to a related issue with this last night. I have my Hopper driving my projector via HDMI. I also use the composite out to a small secondary monitor that I use for administration (setting timers, checking the guide, etc...) so I don't have to fire up the projector for just 5...

Ah, ok. Anybody heard of this as a planned future feature? It would seem to be the one thing that truly prevents the system form being relatively "seamless" as a whole-home system... Well, that, and having to un-link/re-link Joeys to get at other content... Thanks for the reply. -sc

Got my Hopper's installed yesterday... upgraded from 3 DVR's (622, 722, 722K), to a pair of Hopper+Joey combos. Each Joey can see it's linked parent Hopper, or I can re-link it to the other Hopper. It can use a tuner, or see DVR recording on either the internal HD or EHD. Each Hopper can see...

I believe so... as I have groups that get created automagically when a timer records one more than one episode of a program... -sc

I indeed think iws confusing the ERD option. Thanks. So... is the reason the "Set to folder" option is avaialble on my 622, but grayed out onmy 722 BECAUSE I have an EHD installed in the 722? Why can't I rcord to some other folder in the internal HD? Thanks. -sc

I recently enabled EHD support on my 622 and 722. I've swapped back and forth a bit, and the EHD primarily lives on my 722, which has a "My Media" folder that was auto-created and that displayes the contents of the EHD. I've noticed that under the Optons for a scheduled recording, you can...

Well, to close this loop, I went ahead and downloaded the Seagate Freeagent tools* and diabled drive spindown. No more phantom listings. While I was there, I disabled the LED's on the thing as well. -sc * A 200+ MB install for a frickin drive utility makes me hate Seagate all the more. Not to...

Hmm, OK, I'll have to figure out how do that. Odd that it's not waking up using the standard ATA/SATA command set. A regular ol' PC running the OS of your choice can wake up any connected drive. Thanks. -sc

Hey all- New to the externalHDD game... I just got the capability activated last week, and added an external HDD. I did it primarily becuase I was swapping the install locations of a 622 and a 722, and wanted to swap the recordings on them to keep the recordings in their correct "locations" in...

So is Dish replacing leased 942's with MPEG4 capable boxes? I got a call a month back scheduling to do that for me free of charge (but probably a new lease commitment). They then had to cancel the appointment and I've not heard back. I'm going to call them soon, but thought I'd find out what's...

Heh. Figures the day I get ethernet plumbed to my 622 and try it out would be the day the onlive service is fubar'ed. Mine was hanging/freezing as well. I have a direct conection to my ethernet switch, and the connection tests good with another device. I'll try again later I suppose.

622 captions show up just fine on any display connected to it... including a peojector. As long as the source has decent bitrate, the picture can be awesome... some content on my 133" screen looks great... not quite HD DVD, but pretty darn good...
