Unfortunately what you're trying to do can't be done. You can't just add a second drive and create an array. Both drives would be wiped to create the array, regardless of the enclosure.

Keep the one you already have, less hassle.

Yup, I'm with you there. My network gear doesn't even have UPnP.

Wrong... Blocking Internet access on the port his Genie is connected to for Internet does nothing to the DECA network the Genie, clients and DVRs use. It's a completely self contained network.

I know what he meant but clearly you guys aren't getting it... I wasn't referring to specific protocols. If you want to block it from the Internet you block all access on that physical port. The DirecTV gear uses upnp and will just open up another protocol port so it's easier to just block...

Does your WRT3200ACM have a firewall? If so just use the firewall to block Internet access for that port.

I have an Amazon Echo and Harmony setup. It can only turn on/off activities or devices. It can't pause, mute, skip, etc. That's fine with me though. It would take longer for the Echo to do it than just pressing the button. lol

Not to the Genie they aren't.

It's already formatted to work with the HR54, why reformat? Just delete the shows you can't play from the HR34 and move on.

When the screen saver kicks in the machine believes itself to be in standby, idle, whatever you want to call it, and dumps the buffer. The buffer dumped the moment the SS kicked in, not when the SS is "dismissed". That is normal for a Genie. Your SS may not come on because you've turned off...

Cool, personal attacks.... Another one for the ignore list.

You assume no one has tested it. You know what happens when you assume, right? The USB port on a Genie can NOT be used to add an external hard drive, period.
  18. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I won't work... eSATA = 7 pin, USB = 4 pin. In no way are they cross compatible.

"My purpose in asking about a double ended A Type USB cable is I can use one to connect my external case's eSATA port to my PC's USB port, however, I've never tried it with a DirecTV box. I figured since most of the participants in this thread are veteran members, perhaps one of you guys may...

The USB port on a DirecTV box cannot be used for an external drive, period, no matter what adapters you may or may not have.
