  1. DIRECTV SD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I was cleaning out my basement and found two SD TiVo directv boxes. I used these before Directv went to MPEG4 for HD. Do they still use MPEG2 for SD channels? Are these DVRs still useful on directv? If I sell them will the buyer need new access cards? They were owned and never leased.

This is your guess, mine is different. Note that TiVo has released several DVRs to MSOs since they started this with Directv. Also have a 4 tuner TiVo on the market NOW.
  3. DIRECTV General Discussion
Does anyone think that perhaps Directv dragged their feet on this for years until they could debug their own DVRs? Clearly they have set this up to fail.
  4. DIRECTV General Discussion
I believe that TiVo's season passes are channel specific--at least they are on a Tivo HD.

Tjhere is a pretty good list here: http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=164125 Some of these are OBE, but many still remain.

So, are you saying that wish lists on the D* DVRs work a lot better?
  7. DIRECTV General Discussion
It's not the hardware in the HR22 that sucks, its the software. The TiVo HD should be just fine.

Does Directtv carry the MLB network in HD? If so, how do they handle the MLB blackout restrictions?
  9. DIRECTV General Discussion
You must not have been around when the HR20 was released.
  10. DIRECTV General Discussion
TiVo apparently has a 2 GB, 4 tuner Premier Elite box in the works for cable. Just wondering if there is anything that prevents Directv from offering a 4 tuner box? Does the SWM allow 4 tuners?

Does Dish require a 2 year commitment?
  12. DIRECTV General Discussion
Yet, whenever anyone brings up the 50 SL limit for the HRs, someone says just pay an extra $5 a month for another HR.
  13. DIRECTV General Discussion
That didn't stop Directv from releasing the HR-10.
  14. DIRECTV General Discussion
Do we know for sure its the hardware that is slow? It could be the software.
  15. DIRECTV General Discussion
Many of you are thinking from your current situation--perhaps HR24 and MRV. But someone who is adding a DVR, or a new customer, may choose the TiVo because you can not choose the HR model you want. You may get a slow DVR with a small hard disk. At least with the TiVo you will know what you...

Not true. On a Tivo you press the "live TV" button to switch between tuners. On a given tuner, you press the enter button to switch between two channels. Of course you lose the buffer when you do this and I suspect the same it true on the DirecTV approach.
  17. DIRECTV General Discussion
I don't find it counter-intuitive at all. IF you choose a channel that is already tuned on a tuner, it switches to that tuner. Why would you ever want the same channel on two tuners? I do see how you could drop a buffer you want if you are not careful. You can always press the info button...
  18. DIRECTV General Discussion
If you punch in a channel number that is already on the other tuner, the TiVo will switch to that tuner. Now if you punch in another channel you will lose the buffer. That seems logical but I can see how it might confuse one if you are just surfing up and down. So on the D* DVR can you have...

    TiVo does Netflix and amazon.
