Good luck. I had the same upgrade scheduled three times in the last three weeks. Each time they sent me numerous texts (including when two hours into the scheduled 4 hour scheduled period) indicating that they would make the schedule. I even had to text back "yes" a couple times to indicate I...

Do you have their protection plan? I'm getting a free upgrade to the genie 2 and two c61k's; but that's because I pay monthly for the protection plan. One of the plan's entitlements is a free "technology upgrade" every two years.

Thanks for the inputs. Makes me feel better. Regarding the Guide/GUI, believe it's the same one that's on my current HR44 genie.

I currently have a HR44 and HR24. Primary display is a Z9D and I'm wanting to see some of the DTV UHD (although I realize is is very limited. I have an installation scheduled next week for a Genie 2 and a couple wired C61K's. However, I'm getting nervous because of all the problems I'm now...

Industry standards are pretty much set for UHD and even the new UHD players. HDR is still in a state of flux; although shows lots of promise. Since Scott wrote his article a few weeks ago, Amazon has made available an original series "Mozart in the Jungle" in HDR. Netflix and Amazon both plan...

Another difference. My 24-500 output RGB. My 44-500 outputs YCbCr. My prior TV, Panasonic VT25, did not play nice with RGB. I had to use a video processor to change input to YCbCr.

"Stupid" may not be the right word; but it is a problem for many. YCbCr is the color format used in most video applications (and output from pretty much all DVR's except the 24-500 which outputs RGB). RGB is primarily a computer scheme; although most TV's convert to and process in RGB. My...

My HR24-500 definitely outputs RGB. Some sets do a better job with either RGB or YCbCr. My Panasonic 65vt25 does not handle RGB as well as it handles YCbCr (quite a few posts regarding this issue on AVS a year or so ago). I validated the issue with the Spears and Munsil disk although I must...

My HR24-500 was taking "forever" to change channels. Got new software (4a8) last night and now channel changes are around 3 seconds.

For what it's worth, I use the Edge with a 24-500 with no problems.

No. There are lots of ways. What you should have said is something like "consistent with existing or prior policy, there is no way to guarantee a specific receiver". If the policy has been changed, there are numerous ways it could be done.

No, but I have verified that I'm still having HR24/AM21 issues; although a little different. Tried to record one OTA show last night (thought I had changed them all to satellite). It recorded first two minutes and then "froze". When I hit "skip"or "ff" it went to the end of the show. Nothing...

Yes, I also got "412" on both of my "500's". Sure hope it fixes the AM-21 issues.

Title of thread is for all versions of HR24; but release notes exclude the HR24-500? Is title incorrect and will the "500's" have the own release? They definitely seem to have their unique problem with the AM21 interface.
  18. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
    Yes, on the "24-500".

HR24 output, as described earlier, is RGB (limited to 16-235). If your TV has a user selection for handling RGB (as my 65vt25 does), ensure that it is set to limited and not expanded (terminology may differ on your TV).

Purchased the following off Amazon (it's "1.3" vice "1.4"; but works fine): ViewHD 2 Port HDMI 1x2 Powered Splitter Ver 1.3 Certified for Full HD 1080P with Deep Color & HD Audio and Max Bandwidth of 10.2Gbps I use it with my PS3. Send one "split" HDMI to pre processor and the other direct to...
