Worst case you reformat the drive and let the DirecTV box load the software again. Just like putting in any new drive. No worse off than the total resets with removal of all things.

That is true for most folks. I have had the pleasure of the Linux command line along with other arcane bits of this and that with TiVo drives. Unfortunately now have no way to hook up a drive to a computer. Traveling full time has some limitations.

I would like to clear the history on the Genie. Any way to do it without clearing all the series links and recorded shows?

We had to reboot ours and it does take FOREVER to get back to having menu items. It has never been quick to reboot. Now it is at least twice as long. Horrible performance. This software load is definitely the worst yet. Every new release makes something else slower and less useful. That screen...

Never underestimate the ability of DTV to make something worse. Got this version on 6/18 and now we have the freezing playing back recorded programs. Could we just go back to the SD guide version which worked much better?

No buffer after watching recorded show About twice an hour a one second no audio glitch with attendant video frame loss Horrible response to remote very very slow (nothing new here it has always been slow as is the HR24) Cannot set 480i or 480p resolutions this is new with D8 Cannot view low...

The loss of buffer on the active channel is a real pain in the keester. Still happens with this latest downgrade.

TiVo knows how to do a DVR.

The TiVo method is fifteen thousand times more useful. List of stations down the left side, highlighted one shows what is playing for the next twelve segments. As fast as you can click up and down you get lots of info. With the DTV DVR you have to drill down to the channel six at a time, the...

It started last night with Fox recordings being unplayable for some reason or other. Fox live also stuck and would not play. So this morning my lovely wife said she could not get Fox at all. Had to reset the receiver. We have never been in one place this long since we got this semi useless DVR...

Not just the Genie (nee HR34) but the HR24 too.

Perfect for us on the road full time. We don't get the locals but we do get the 39X feeds.

    Or a 34 and 44 pair.

The only "advantage" is that the client is very small. So if limited space then it might fit. Otherwise it is not worth much compared to a DVR.

It could not find The Americans one hour before it aired tonight. Is that too far out?
  17. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
We probably watch less than 10% of what we record. The reason for a DVR is to have a choice when nothing else is on live that appeals to you. Or to catch that one special program or guest that is on a talk show. The rest are just junk. We never ever watch live anyway because it is a time waster...

They made the guide too dark and did not incorporate the easy list like TiVo has on the right side. So you have to do as stated above and then wait and wait and wait for the upcoming shows to populate. The other thing that is really stupid is that the area for displaying present and upcoming...

Mike Greer summed it up pretty nicely. I would add that having to key in a new channel twice before it tunes is SLOW. Both the 24 and 34 have this bug. Never changes on the first input but always changes on the second input. Fast really were the TiVo's both DirecTiVo and Series 3 Tivo. Dish is...

Dumb search really does not work very well. No way I would call it Smart Search.
