  1. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Our dock is floating, however, quite stable.... it doesn't really move... We should be good. I've got a 4x4" pole mounted near a pylon. Bill
  2. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Our house has a SWM. I have one wire going from the dish to a box in my basement, where it's split to the rest of the house. So - reading the above, I can do the 3 or 5 - slim line... And yes, this will be mounted to the dock, on a pole.
  3. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
It looks like we have the slimline 5 at home...
  4. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Good info guys - thank you... the boxes aren't actually programmed or locked to a specific dish type are they?
  5. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Will the 2 LNB give me all my locals, HD, etc? The dock is public, however, they permit dishes. It wouldn't be in the way of any egress. it would be on a pole.

We have a slimline dish at home, with 5 receivers. I'd like to take one of those receivers to our boat over the weekend when we are out there. (it's 10 minutes from our house) It is a HR22-100 receiver, we'd like to get the HD channels. What satellite dish should I install on the dock? Our...

Is that why the On Demand isn't working? It's called 'on demand' on the HR20, but my other boxes it says Cinema Plus - and its working fine on those. On the HR20, it seems that it can't find the channels?

So I've been trying to figure out why my On Demand hasn't been working on the HR20-700 that I have. The menu on there says On Demand vs. the "Cinema" the rest of my boxes show... My On Demand hasn't worked on this box for the longest time... I see that my box is still on 0x40c, from 8/31 -...

If I had access to that router, you are correct. Corporate IT sucks sometimes... I have no view or admin access into that box.
  10. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Very :) Some more reasons for the isolations and complexity are also to help in assisting with more complex installations that I support/design at customer sites. You solution is valid, but as you suggest, no 'true' separation between the networks. Further complexity, the office VLAN's...

Your suggestion of playing with different subnet masks doesn't solve the problem I'm describing. Plus, in my setup, even in your instance where a device would be outside of the mask, it would hit my default gateway, and be routed appropriately back to the device in question. To dumb it down...
  12. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
In this case, it isn't. The DVR in question is in my office, which has one physical cable from the core of my network (a L3 switch). In that office, I have a 'dumb'/un-managed netgear switch where everything is plugged into. Everything in my office is on it's own VLAN. In order for me to...

While this thread has gotten quite offtopic - I'll try to address the questions and such asked. * Yes, I know I can do pcaps and get this information myself.... but for my strong sense of laziness, it's always easier to ask first if someone has done it. There are alot of geeks on this site :)...

** only those with actual networking knowledge need reply, please. I'm getting ready to move my HD DVR's to a different VLAN in my home network.. We have 6 HD DVRs in the house. There is a potential that one of the HD DVRs may be on a separate vlan than the rest due to cabling issues. Has...

I'm very familiar w/ hardware - but doesn't the new drive need some type of software on it? Or is the main software stored in some type of memory, and it will just format and use the new drive?
  16. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
How did you upgrade it to a TB drive? I thought that was only available externally :) interest peaked!
  17. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Well, there is something different... both running same code. Attempted to red button reboot, no difference. Swapped the HD DVRs (put the working one in the non-working one location) to validate it wasn't cabling or network - it still worked. So frustrating, as there is no real debugging...

I've actually tried a ton of variations in there... I'm really starting to think there is something wrong w/ the code 0x2f4 on my HR20-100 that was just downloaded.... even some of my recordings have pixelation... I just tried on my HR20-700 (also has 0x2f4), and the videos are coming through...

Have had this on 0x2f4 on my HR20/100 since Tuesday of this week. Recordings are pixelated, and Media Share is also pixelated....

OK - so I'm using Tversity on a very high powered machine (more than adequate for streaming/transcoding...) Quad Core, 4 gig of ram, not doing much else :) When I goto watch videos from tversity (ones that must be transcoded) - the video on the TV is really pixelated. It's a hardwired...
