  1. DIRECTV General Discussion
You know what, nevermind, it just isn't worth it.

First, I'm not here slamming you. I respect your opinion. I would argue I'm very much not out of touch on this one for any number of reasons, but that is ok. My last comment would be that overly simplifying the math or the constructs without knowing all the variables can lead to some very...

Mark are you the same person as the other guy? Merely asking based on your comments. I will just say the numbers you are linking to in those articles have a fundamental problem in many ways, including promotional units, Cinemax, US vs Int'l, and HBO movie revenues (studio, not subscription...

Again, plenty of very good research out there by companies that actually do this for a living. Forbes is a nice magazine for certain things, but I'd invite them (or that particular author) to do the same research I've suggested.

I am suggesting a bit more research will make you comfortable that your wholesale estimate is not accurate or even close to accurate.
  6. DIRECTV General Discussion
Uhm. No. I think you may want to do a lot more public research on that one.

Conjunction junction, what's your function. Schoolhouse Rock.....also key to Saturday morning cartoons.

There are multiple 101 satellites, but that shouldn't matter. The "window" to get a 101 signal is pretty large so if you aren't getting a strong 101 signal but a stronger 99, then you need to realign. 101 is the easiest signal to obtain.

It will be available in Choice Xtra Classic is my understanding.
  10. Tech Talk - Gadgets, Gizmos and Technology
That image in the first post cracks me up. I was on a flight in the last few weeks in a very similar plane. My iPad was my entertainment. What I found so silly was the usage of the drop down screens which this particular airline (rhymes Schmerican) used for announcements and safety features...
  11. Cable TV Discussion
I'm pretty sure US politics has been an issue like it has been in most parts of the world for a few hundred years. Plenty of examples. Plenty of examples of "journalism" issues as well on both sides.

Never understood why they didn't do this in the first place. Of course, their model will be destroyed because they will actually have to pay for the content and content is very expensive.
  13. Internet Streaming Services
Can't do that, the signal has to be in the open for the public. At least that is my understanding. Because they are held to that standard, the broadcaster can't protect its signal accordingly.

DIANA C: "I don't recall anyone ever challenging the legality of Slingbox or Vulkano, and certainly no one has challenged DirecTV's GenieGo or TiVo's Stream (AFAIK, all except Vulkano offer both streaming and/or downloading options). Dish and TiVo have already built their streaming products...

More of a curiosity question, what was the "right thing to do" in this case? Sounds like an awful slippery slope to say once it leaves a tower they have no say in what happens to it, at least that's what SCOTUS ultimately determined. As for the 93% disapproval rating they have, this may be...

Now the back pay comes into play http://projects.registerguard.com/apf/tech/aereo-tv-supreme-court-internet/
  17. Internet Streaming Services
How? The issue here was copyright infringement. If online streamers are paying for the content from the providers and then reselling, there is no issue. Aereo wasn't doing that, thus the issue. If Aereo were to provide this service and pay CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC to do so and compensate them for...

It was actually 1987, and the FCC changed it on a 4-0 vote. The idea was to give electronic media the same rights guaranteed from the first amendment that were already granted to the print press from day 1.
  19. DIRECTV General Discussion
Chase Carey imposed a price increase every year he was at DIRECTV. Now he's at NewsCorp and one of the reasons why Directv, Dish and others have to raise prices, because of content costs from the content creators.
