  1. Internet Streaming Services
SInce Amazon Web Services is pretty much "the Internet" in the USA, I don't see how this can fail. They have servers everywhere and CABLES of fiber. DirecTV doesn't have nearly as much bandwidth as Amazon does.
  2. General Satellite Discussion
I left in 2019, after 25 years. Went to Directv streaming first but eventually ended up with YouTube TV, which I think is great.
  3. Cable TV Discussion
Get Comcast Internet, then get a streaming service and VOIP phone service. I was an early DirectTV adopter (1994), but with my new home I just got the cablemodem and ignored everything else the cabletv folks offered and cancelled DirecTV. Then added internet YouTubeTV and the almost-free Ooma...

Dear God, when will the C-SPAN channels go HD? They've been HD on my cable system for years. Also C-SPAN3. Yes, I know that lots of people see no point, but I see no point in HD hockey (or any other form of hockey) but I suppose other people's tastes may differ.
  5. DIRECTV Programming
The package lineups on the DirecTV site are hopelessly out of date. Is there a better list someplace? I found this on the AT&T site. It seems newer. Is it accurate?

I would love to see some Canadian stations, particularly Canadian cable channels like SPACE, but I imagine that exclusivity/market-area contracts with providers prevent that, at least in English.
  7. DIRECTV Programming
For God's sake, add C-SPAN in HD. It's impossible to see a politician's mouth moving in SD, so you cannot tell if they are lying or not.
  8. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
It is kind of odd to complain about picture quality while still using an SD set. But the proper setting for a 4:3 SD set is native off, 480i, letterbox. IF you have a choice, use the HD version of a channel because DirecTV's "SD" is absolutely terrible.
  9. Internet Streaming Services
Or, there can be both systems, just like today where there is OTA and pay.
  10. Internet Streaming Services
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. You are too funny. I'd like ala carte PACKAGES, where you can select small blocks of channels (EPSNx or not ESPNx, or NEWS or not NEWS). THis allows some economies of scale while retaining choices.

C-SPAN 1 & 2 in HD please. Given the brainless ranting on all the so-called news stations, it's the only way to get real political news.
  12. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Make sure that both remote and receiver are set for the same mode, either "IR" mode (typical), or "RF" (newer).
  13. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Does sunlight hit the box? Is the box facing any strong IR source?
  14. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I wish the release notes weren't so verbose.
  15. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
So, I got this nice card from DirecTV about a special gift for being a loyal customer since the beginning. I called them up to add it to my account and guess what? Not so free. I now have a $3 charge for Whole-home even though like the OP I only have one box and 1 TV. Way to make the...
  16. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Add me to the list of people getting intermittent (IR) remote lockouts with HR34 and 0x8d4. Lockouts last up to several minutes and occur fairly frequently. I can't remember this happening before 0x8d4 but I've been using the HR34 more intensely of late. WIll try CLEARMYBOX.
  17. DIRECTV General Discussion
I does sound like they are going to concetrate on "broadband" and without the Uverse TV that might have a lot more bandwidth. Uverse TV (IPTV iirc) has always been a bit of a disappointment. I can see the wired content becoming netflix &tc and enhanced on-demand. There does seem to be another...
  18. DIRECTV General Discussion
They seem to be making light of U-verse, but here in Los Angeles, it is one of the three home video choices (Warner and DirecTV are the others) in most locations (Verizon has a minor presence in SoCal dating back to the days of General Telephone). Four if you count OTA.
  19. DIRECTV General Discussion
    It's announced: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/technology/atandt-directv-announce-48-billion-merger/2014/05/18/62ffc980-dec1-11e3-810f-764fe508b82d_story.html?hpid=z1
  20. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
If you have the protection plan, call and get a truck out. Let DirecTV sort it out.
