Harmony Elite, which I use for everything. Other remotes are unused in the closet. Hard to find nowadays as Logitech killed off Harmony after buying them. The Roku is an RF/Bluetooth system - the H24 is also, by default, but can be switched to IR.
  2. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
No. It's been a while since I tested this, but I used to watch some programming on DirecTV's 4K channel (which they may not have anymore.)
  3. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
    I have an HR44 - it does 4K.
  4. DIRECTV General Discussion
I have a 4K streaming box - the Roku Ultra which supports Dolby Vision (and HDR10, I think). Thanks - I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.
  5. DIRECTV General Discussion
I know that the Gemini doesn't replace my HR44 - the DTV descriptions are very clear about that. I wanted to know if it is essentially a Roku alternative - if so, I don't see the point. I don't want to use their remote, I have a Harmony One that controls all my devices. What I'm gathering is...
  6. DIRECTV General Discussion
I have an HR44 - DirecTV sent me a mailer that offers a "no-cost Gemini device upgrade + free shipping". I haven't been following the Gemini discussion, so I spent some time in this thread and on DirecTV's web site. From what I can see, this is sort-of like a Roku box (I have a Roku Ultra) that...

    Also 2002 for me.

That's because I didn't do that, so I didn't realize you were asking me a question. I know that cloning won't work when changing drive sizes.
  9. DIRECTV General Discussion
I am quite familiar with the technical details involved and have used partition tools to copy and expand TiVo disks in the past. I know exactly what is going on with my cloning dock, where I am not changing disk size. It has worked every time I have done it (other than a totally dead source drive.)
  10. DIRECTV General Discussion
I have done this before, it worked, using a standalone disk cloner. The problem here was that the drive itself was dead and could not be read at all. More recently I successfully cloned a disk from a different DirecTV DVR that was starting to show errors - worked fine. I am aware of using tools...

A month or so ago I got a similar message on my HR44. I tried to do a sector copy of the bad drive to a new one, but that failed. Stuck in a new 2TB drive and started over.
  12. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
We still have a THR22 and my wife insists we keep it going as long as possible. I've replaced the hard disk twice, but otherwise it is trouble-free.
  13. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
My THR22 is in a closet, on an equipment rack, and the internal temp is shown as 43C. I have had this for many years and never a problem.
  14. DIRECTV Programming
Except that's not the offer in question. It was explained to me as three months Starz and Cinemax, but what I got was free Starz and full-price Cinemax.
  15. DIRECTV Programming
Yesterday I get a call from AT&T offering me three months free Cinemax and Starz. The rep said I pay nothing for three months and I can cancel at any time. Today I get an email from AT&T describing the programming changes I made, and it's $13.99 off Starz and full freight for Cinemax. No deal -...
  16. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Ideally you want a drive made for DVRs, such as the WD Purple or Seagate Skyhawk. That said, I have used WD Red drives in my DVRs without issue. (I linked to 3.5" drives - I am not sure which size the HR54 takes.)
  17. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
For a long time, the tip about recording from the guide worked. But over the last month or so, the on-demand shows have returned, which my wife finds annoying. I will try to set up the recording again.
  18. DIRECTV General Discussion
I tried it today on my HR44. It worked, but the picture was SD and looked awful. Oddly, the same local station showed up twice in the channel list with two different programs. (Maybe one was a subchannel? It didn't say.)
  19. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
You're really better off with the newer HRxx (probably HR54). The THR22 still works, but its only advantage is for people (such as my wife) who are bonded to the TiVo interface.
  20. DIRECTV General Discussion
HDMI converters will typically cause the receiver to output an error message, if it can't determine that the HDMI signal path is protected. That eBay listing screams FRAUD to me, especially when the description talks about Ethernet and ARC (audio return channel). I have serious doubts that the...
