  1. DIRECTV General Discussion
I have beeN staying away from tv news and just depending on newspapers, the worldOmeter and some specific YouTube channels. I have watched as the constant CNN and NBC newscast have turned some of my relatives into basket cases.
  2. DIRECTV General Discussion
It was working the last time I checked it. That was maybe a week ago.

Has the Coronavirus softened their stance on discounts? It has reached a point we're $230 a month is unbearable.
  4. DIRECTV General Discussion
I think it's absolutely bizarre that they would send a tech for something like this given what's going on. I would have told them no way am I letting anyone in my house at a time like this. One would also think that Directv would be using their limited manpower in more productive ways.
  5. DIRECTV General Discussion
You would think so but I know business people with small stores that fall into that same trap. I watch as they lose business and then they seem to think increasing the markup is the solution. At some point you try to explain this to them, but they just seem to be focused in on the weekly...

AT&T really needs to come up with a new plan, They are still playing from the early 2000's playbook while other companies are giving you a lot more value for your $$.

Yes I agree, many of the interfaces are terrible. In particular I find Amazons transport buttons to be so bad that I am scared to touch them. One moment the show moves by a few seconds at a time in FF or RW and the next moment it jumps by 5 minutes.

Netflix is the last streaming service I would drop. I am heavily invested in at least six series that they show. It's hard to find a better value for the $$. The one secret I found to Netflix that might make it more enjoyable for new people is to go through the shows you know and love and...

Hey Rich I know we like some of the same Netflix shows and I don't know if you have watched "Locke and Key" yet, but it is pretty good. I am sure you watched "Messiah", that was epic! Now I am going to take a look at Altered Carbon season 2. I loved the first season and am looking forward to...

I am just going to throw my two cents into it and say he is probably right but that his prediction is a long way off and depends on a lot of factors. Only When Directv streaming is a proven winner for Directv and has a significant customer base of it's own will AT&T try to move people over to...
  11. Internet Streaming Services
I am seriously wondering how Directv is going to survive even the next five years let alone ten. Every month it becomes harder and harder to justify paying my bill. I could literally drop Directv and get everything I would ever need for half the price. At this point I am kind of just becoming...

Personally I think my top end package is about to be reduced to a lower package. The more streaming services that come on line just have better shows. I am loving SEE on appletv. The Mandalorian has also been very interesting on Disney plus. Add that to all the new shows Netflix is delivering...
  13. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Thanks for the kind words Rich. I would switch to SSD drives if I had a bit more confidence in my future with DTV. I honestly find myself using it less and less and watching streaming services more and more. Sat and Cable are really going to have to up their game if they hope to survive. The...

I don’t use stock Directv remotes. I always use a Harmony remote. I have owned HR-20/23/24/54 and C61k. Call me odd but my go to unit is almost always the HR-24. I hate the guide and menus on the HR-54 and C61k. I have never had slow responses as described here with the 24 no ssd btw. It is...
  15. DIRECTV General Discussion
A lot of rural folks have depended on either using DTV or Dish. These people do not typically have access to even medium speed internet good enough for streaming. The question I have is would the FCC allow a merger. I am sure rural customers will see this as a monopoly being created to suck...
  16. The Movies
Hollywood has been run by accountants for the last thirty years. It’s a much safer investment to take known characters and plots from TV or Print material that is already proven rather than to take a shot in the dark with an unknown story. Just like the stock market their safe bet system can...

Oh so the $4 is for the three year deal. In that case Count me out until some major new MCU series has emerged.

Yeah but isn't that cord cutters news? I get the feeling from other posts that they are not all that accurate. Cutting out one of the main three for Disney + would be a more of a loss than a gain IMHO. I would rather shell out the small extra fee than loose one of those three. Maybe I am just a...

It will be just like HBO Go or any of the other content providers. You will have all the old episodes and movies ready to go but anything new will be dripping in just like HBO Go. I fail to see how this threatens Netflix who has developed a cult of millions of Binge watchers. At $4 a month I...

So breaking news flash. Disney streaming is not going to be like Netflix! All new shows will have new episodes shown weekly. With the plan being that by time you finish one series another will be starting the following week. So there will be no binge watching like on Netflix. The reason given...
