  1. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
Yes, I've used their peanut remote in the past, but I've programmed macros on my MX-5000/MSC-400 (using RF) that's simplified everything I do with my home theater setup. It's nice not having to use multiple remotes.
  2. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
That's a deal breaker for me. I'm using the USB dongle with my Universal Remote MSC400 to send RS-232 serial commands to my HR24 to control it. It also worked on the older HR20. Too bad they omitted that functionality with the THR22.

To control all the remote control functions.
  4. DIRECTV DVR with TiVo Discussion
Is there an RS-232 port on the back of the THR22 or does it use the USB connector like the rest of the DirecTV DVRs.
  5. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
It says on the DirecTV website that if you attach an external drive, the internal drive would be disabled. I was hoping that this would mean that it would not spin because mine is going bad and making loud noises.
  6. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Exact same thing that was happening to me when I got my HR24-100 when it was introduced. I did the reboot and checked the signal strength and connections and all seemed fine but the problem persisted. A month later the techs came out and replaced my dish and all the wiring and that did not...
  7. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Ah, okay. This explains why it's happening to me. I have an Integra which is the same as an Onkyo.
  8. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I'm having the same audio dropout problems and I'm currently using the optical output to my Integra processor. Never had the problem with my HR21.
  9. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I had lots of 771 error issues on my original HR24-500. The techs came to my house and replaced the dish and all the wiring leading to the DVR and all was good for a couple of weeks and then it started happening again. I had the unit replaced with an HR24-100 and everything has been good for...
  10. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
The only way you can do both is if you use RS232 for RF, that way you can leave the box set to receive IR. Mine is set up where I have my RF-controlled Universal MSC-400 connected to the HR24 via RS232 where I can control it from another room but it can still be controlled by a generic IR...

No problem. Now all I need to do is have my Oppo 93 problems sorted out (I see you also post on the AVS Forum) and my HT system will be perfect.

You enable by touching the left and right arrow buttons on the front panel.
  13. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Yes, it was a feature on all HR's, but it didn't work on my defective unit. I tried enabling the feature after every firmware update with no luck.
  14. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Yeah, I could do that on my HR20 but not the HR24-500 so I thought they did away with that feature. I gave it a try on my new HR24-100 and bingo, no lights.
  15. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I've had problems with my HR24-500 since I installed it in my system when they were first released last July. I kept getting 771 errors (no signal) which never happened with my HR20. DTV service came to my house and replaced the dish and all the cables leading to it but the errors never went...

It'll probably take more than an HR24 to impress your girlfriend.
  17. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
On a couple occasions I would change channels and get a still frame that will stick there until I change channels again. I won't get a 771 error message, the image just hangs there. I'm hoping that this is just a small glitch that a firmware update will fix.
  18. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Looks like you're having the same problem I'm having. Did you try watching any of it live? If you did, you would have probably seen the 771 error... your receiver couldn't find the satellite. It happened to me twice, both on local channels. I reset it the first time and all was good until last...
  19. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
The last time it happened (during the "Lost" finale last night!!!!!!!), I disconnected everything and re-connected making sure everything was tight. If it happens again I will make a call to D*. I hope they don't want to swap receivers because there's no guarantee they'll replace it with an HR-24.
  20. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
I checked the signal strength and everything was in the high 80's and above. There are absolutely no obstructions to the dish. I'm thinking I'll have to call in to a CSR to diagnose the problem.
