  1. DIRECTV General Discussion
Ahhhh... This sounds like you have two different points of ground, the ground rod and the water pipe. Not good. Having two different paths to ground is called a ground loop. It can drive electronic equipment crazy. The D* ground block should be tied back to the buildings electrical ground...

By sending back a regular box in place of DVR, sounds like you're upgrading yourself. They might want a few bucks for that move. :)

Yeah. D* has been advising BP on media relations.

All the ladies watching their soaps are just freaked.
  5. DIRECTV General Discussion
A mismatch in data definitions between software releases or general screw up in attempt to redefine the data (rearrange data, make room for new data), same effect. You gotta clear the disk cache to get things working again if you screw up.
  6. DIRECTV General Discussion
You might want to rethink this statement, goofy IT guy. It appears that new software's data sturcture definitions of disk cached data does not match that of the older version software. Luckly, it only takes two rbr resets to clear out all that old data (schedules, etc.) to allow new software to...

    Anything is better than wireless.:)
  8. DIRECTV Connected Home
The ground block can be inside the dwelling. It will pass building inspection if it is installed within a couple of feet of cable entrance. (I know, kinda loose spec. Someone being practical at NEC.) Also, ground block weathers much nicer indoors.

When you're really sawing wood on the sofa it's always the worse commercials that they crank up, Billy Mays selling Orange-Glo or Vince hawking the Slap-Chop.

Back some five years ago many TVs were sold as EDTV or HDTV ready. They didn't have HDMI inputs because HDMI wasn't invented yet. They used componet cables (3 video, 2 audio) for signal. You might want to double check your TVs. Many people just used them as SDTVs since they didn't have a HD...
  11. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
You can worry about future proofing but it's really Directv's problem. You either get the SWM16 now, or you get it in the future when you need it. Directv is kinda like a dog, it lives in the moment.
  12. DIRECTV Connected Home
Nowhere does OP mention using wireless or having a problem with IP addresses. You really ought to slow down so as to increase your reading comprehension. Or switch to decaf. :)
  13. DIRECTV Connected Home
Forget the wireless stuff. As part of the DECA install the tech will run a RG6 cable to your DSL router as if it were a receiver and hook it up with a DECA adapter. And it's free, part of the deal.
  14. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
The IR codes are stored in a ROM in the remote at manufacture. There are millions of these remotes in the field. No way to update them. Directv is like Zvox? who? never heard of them and a bit late to the party. Get the units shipped numbers up to where they are seen on the radar screen and...

You might want to keep it plugged into dish and powered up at home so it stays activated and is always ready to go.
  16. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Directv will install the SWM16 as part of DECA/receiver upgrade. Save your $300.

Look at the picture that battlezone posted. The top middle connector is antenna in. Use it to diplex you OTA cable. Then you need a diplexer behind each tivo, of course.
  18. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Don't worry about the tech freaking out when he sees a SWM8 instead of a WB68, he won't care unless it screws up his work order (probably still won't care). They do sell this stuff on the open market to any and everyone. More likely you'll hear about any real crappy connectors that you might...
  19. DIRECTV Connected Home
I've already got cat5/6 and RG6 in the wall and on keystone jacks behind 5 HDDVRs. Enet are home runs to gigabit switch. If MRV is not running tip-top, I don't see it. So will stay with ethernet until something comes up that it cannot do. Also to skip the extra cost and the extra complexity of...
  20. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Maybe not so simple if the existing wiring in the new house does not match your current receiver collection. Maybe you have a DVR where only a receiver was before (might need a second line pulled). Maybe you want one of your receivers in a different location in the house. Maybe you have more...
