  1. DIRECTV General Discussion
Excuse me? I'm not saying that software is not the determinant here. I was responding to the post by Rich, saying that there is no "set time for any DVR." As far as disputing facts: you have none, so it's hard for me to dispute them.
  2. DIRECTV General Discussion
Ok, so what determines how long a program is available to view after service cancellation?
  3. DIRECTV General Discussion
I've done the search; other than my own situation I can't find any mention of specific receiver/software combinations and the amount of time that recorded programs are available after service cancellation. As someone who has suggested that recording availability after cancellation may be...
  4. DIRECTV General Discussion
Excellent! Facts are great. What receiver/software combination were these folks running, and how much shorter was their time?
  5. DIRECTV General Discussion
Gotcha. You're speculating and guessing. My experience with an HR20-700 and an HR22-100 running 0x912 is that recordings are available for at least 20 months after cancelling service, as long as the boxes are disconnected from the dish before the cancel order is given. However, you say that...

No. Someone with a different receiver/software combination who cancelled and wanted to watch DVR recordings would know as well. Where's the data on that? What do you have besides speculation and guessing?
  7. DIRECTV General Discussion
Sure, they could have. Did they?
  8. DIRECTV General Discussion
Yes, I understand that I'm only one data point. Software "may" be a determining factor in how long a DVR will play recordings after service cancellation. The two receivers that I still have hooked up, an HR20-700 and an HR22-100, were/are both running 0x912. What receiver/software...

This thread may be informative: Suspended service - recordings available? I suspended service, then cancelled, more than a year-and-a-half ago, and I can still view recordings on my DirecTV DVRs. They have been rebooted numerous times.

Update: Service was suspended on March 30, 2015, after the DVRs were disconnected from the satellite input. Two DVRs remain connected to a TV, and they are still able to play back recorded content, 15 months after service was suspended.

Is your name Francis, by any chance?
  12. DIRECTV General Discussion
Well, it's been seven months and I'm still able to watch recorded content. No reauthorizations, power has gone out multiple times, but the old shows are still there and available to watch.

Another update: The three HD DVRs that were not recovered after cancelling service can still play recorded content. It's been four and-a-half months now since I originally suspended service, prior to cancelling.
  14. DIRECTV General Discussion
Yes, I do. As a reminder, they were all disconnected from the dish before the call to suspend service was made, and they have remained disconnected since.

Another update: The three HD DVRs that were not recovered after cancelling service can still play recorded content. It's been almost three months now since I originally suspended service, prior to cancelling.

Yeah, you can pick and choose. As trh points out in post #45, pay the undisputed portion of the bill, and send DirecTV a letter informing them that you are disputing the charges that have not been paid for. While an investigation is done, no collection action will be taken. I did this when...

I have a Toshiba TV and I hate (OK, "strongly dislike") this feature. At least on my set, there is no option to go to one button press to get full mute.
  18. DIRECTV General Discussion
Update: Twenty days after suspending service, after first disconnecting my receivers from the dish, I still have access to recorded content on all four HD DVRs. I cancelled service a week ago, and received a single recovery kit today for the HR-24. The CSR on my cancellation call said that...

I'm not sure how to react to your post telling me it's unlikely that my evaluation of picture quality is accurate, without having personally observed the same things that I have observed. And no, it's not confirmation bias, thank you very much. So, in order for OP not to be considered a troll...

Yes, it's subjective, but in my opinion the picture quality on my TVs is better with cable than it was with DirecTV. Of course, YMMV.
