  1. DIRECTV General Discussion
All week I've been seeing DirecTV receivers reboot at bars and restaurants. They have the new logo as they boot back up.

I got one today. It was a robocall, which interestingly asked for the pin code before anything else. Then a few minutes later my other half (who is not on the DirecTV account at all) got the same call.

Who knows, but my mom's HR22s that are slower than slug stuck in molasses, have no dropout problems at all. If the decoding chips were overloaded by the encoders, recordings would suffer from the same problem I would think.

Just throwing in a "me too".. my 24-500 has maddening drop outs, especially on HGTV and KTLA-5 (Los Angeles). It is not a HDMI problem, the issue remains if I switch to optical. Backing up the live buffer helps a lot, recordings are fine.

Yeah that's my experience also. It *CAN* start doing it again when watching with live with a buffer, but it's much more rare. It may not cut out again for several hours.

I have the same problem on my HR24. It seems worse on certain channels, HGTV is a big offender. Sometimes backing up the live buffer helps. Recordings are almost always fine. Receiver is a Yamaha RXV677. There usually isn't pixelization. Backing up and replaying is fine. Have tried...
  7. DIRECTV Tips and Resources
Just wanted to post about my experience. The original post recommends GParted (0.4.6-1). I went through this process last year when my external HDD started dying. With that version I get several invalid argument errors during the copy that resulted in working, but stuttery recordings...

We were looking through the guide and found "Independence Day" on HBO. All the HBO shows have the option to watch the show from the beginning. We tried it on Independence Day, and instead it tried to get me to pay $3.99 for the movie on demand. Independence Day only shows the PPV option in...

A lot. I just bought a 4k 65" TV for $1499. I wasn't really shopping for a 4K TV but my 2 year old Samsung plasma died and needed something decent to replace it. There's no way I'd spend an extra $6.50/mo for a relatively small PQ quality increase. We haven't bought into the more...

LOL, you clearly don't have rabid Walking Dead fans in your household. My partner is absolutely distraught that he's going to have to wait until 8 to watch it.

I've been having this issue for a while now. Pretty annoying :(

AT&T likes the names to be confusing, because it allows them to fudge numbers for their investors. AT&T "U-verse high speed internet" could be ADSL2+ at an absolute max of 18mbps. This is lipstick on the traditional DSL pig, we affectionally call this "FTTCO - Fiber to the CO". Or FTTN...

Big Brother is one of my favorite guilty pleaures, but I got a good chuckle out of someone calling it "compelling". I'm also a huge HD snob, but strangely I don't much mind that this show is in SD. I just don't see much need to see fine detail when they're stuck in that ugly house. It's...

I'm not sure if there's an easier way, but if you use the serial interface, you can specifically tell it key down and up. 5.13 SendUserCommand (0xA5) Command Label SendUserCommand Command Byte 0xA5 Input Parameter(s) [Type] [Device] [Key]...

To comply with HDCP, most TVs will not output true surround sound via the optical output jack from an HDMI source. They will usually convert it to some sort of downmixed stereo format (simple 2-channel PCM or Dolby Surround). The optical out is mainly useful for using the built in OTA HD...

A black CCK is functionally the same as a white DECA adapter + a power adapter. Both just bridge the DECA network to ethernet. Early installs used an additional white adapter at your home router to connect it to the internet. The black CCK was introduced a little later. It just has a...

I used an iPad pointed at the TV, and then made a FaceTime call to the iPad. Now I can see the signal level at the dish. :) Started by centering on a 101 TP (easier target to find), then fine tuned with a 99 conus TP. The rest of them looked good after that. ;)

The sound quality of SonicTap is much better than the super-compressed sound you get from Sirius/XM's satellites, but it's not quite CD quality. I don't know about the transmission bitrate, but I've captured SonicTap from my DirecTV receiver digitally, and used Adobe Audition to analyze the...

Check your WPA mode in your router. Start with WPA2 Personal, and try other modes (WPA/WPA2 Personal) if that doesn't work. Also try testing with a shorter password to see if it's a length problem. I've seen some cases where devices don't implement the password properly. Some people are...

The Genie is a bridge. You could use the ethernet port to connect to the TV, and another CCK in a different location that gets internet to the Genie. What you don't want to do is hook both the Genie's ethernet port and the CCK to the same router (directly or indirectly). You don't want to...
