Likely we'll be getting a bundling offer within a couple of months. I'm in the same situation. We've had DirecTV for 16 year but had to stick with T-W for internet and phone. Give us a good deal and and I'll switch in the blink of an eye. I HATE T-W!
  2. Blu-Ray Hardware
For several years, I've had a Panasonic S29 DVD player which I love because it has a feature that allows the option of not showing on-screen messages such as "Play", "pause" arrows and such. I'm looking to replace it with a Blu-Ray and/or an upconverting DVD player that has the same feature. Any...

If you're okay with the lesser quality, for just until you get back on your feet, check with local charity thrift stores. Around here VCRs can be had for about five bucks and gently used tapes for fifty cents. It's not HD, but at least you'll be able to record. Good luck.

I signed up through an independent satellite dealer in 1999. I remember I got three basic receivers, dish and installation just under $600. They weren't offering leases then and no DVRs yet, but I was thrilled. I had been looking at them before, but was put off by the fact that everybody who had...

I feel I get more than my money's worth with Netflix, so while I'm happy to keep the current price for as long as I can. If, at some point, it goes up a buck or two, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

TWC miscalculated expecting there would be a huge viewer revolt and that didn't materialize. The angry mobs didn't storm DirecTV's gates with torches and pitchforks and as it turned out, most just didn't care. I dare say that probably many didn't even realize they were watching a different...

I own a two family duplex, we live on one side and have a tenant on the other. Both of us have our own DirecTV account and both accounts use the same dish on the roof. We've had a very bad winter and last week lost the signal. I was away and he called DirecTV, after two days the service guy...

When it comes to customer comments, I think most forums regarding service from some company, be it DirecTV, cable, the phone company or whatever, tend to skew towards negative comments. People who are happy with their service rarely bother write to a forum and say how good it is, while those who...

Of course they would or do what our local cable company does and stick it to you with inflated equipment fees. The last time I compared them with DirecTV, I would have payed about $35 a month more for basically the same programming package and equipment, but I'd getting "free" HD.

You're very correct. Movie packages are extremely expensive ,costing millions per title for recent big hits and they don't get them forever, just for a negotiated number of years. Not to mention that there are only so many new films available each year which forces the premiums to bid against...

Wasn't there a time (maybe still is), when after a certain number of recievers, DirecTV required that additional equipment had to be hooked up by an installer? I guess that was to verify that everything was actually in one house and nobody was supplying receivers to the whole neighborhood for a...

I'm probably older than all of you and for many years worked at a TV station starting back when things were shot and edited on 16mm film. Even though the station switched to tape in the early 1980's and by the time I retired all recording was digital, a lot of us from that era still call the...

You might be surpised at how many people still use VCRs. Oh not most of the folks who come here, but if you go to some old movie forums like like TCM.com you're bound to find people who don't care about quality (they like to brag if there recorder has an 8 hour mode) and are happy to keep what...

I tried that once with a phone company after talking with "Jason" for ten minutes and getting nowhere I asked to be transferred to a supervisior in the U.S. He gave me the U.S. supervisor's "direct number". I called and in the background you could here the same people talking and the same music...

Very true, but unfortunately, most people don't come to sites like this. They take the word of a salesperson for gospel.

When I was a kid, almost everything was closed on Sunday except some restaurants and the movies (after 2pm). Even most of the businesses that we allowed to open, like drug stores and super markets chose to stay closed or at least only open until noon. In the whole city of 90,000, only one gas...

I had the same thing with Ice Road Truckers last week. I recorded one of the later repeats and it was fine.

I'd be surprised if such regulations are valid anymore. Here in New York, the state had so called "blue laws" which governed what could or could not be open on Sunday. Even what products could be sold. It was crazy how the state thought. For instance, you could buy a roll of toilet paper because...

Thanks guys. All is okay. I didn't realize that there might be a different "look" to the screen depending on the device. It works, so I'm happy. I think I am going to get a Roku in the near future.
