  1. DIRECTV SD DVR/Receiver Discussion
Yeah i dunno.............. I think its just an attempt to get MORE $$$$$$ from people!! (Otherwise they would just MASS-UPGRADE everyone (Like they did with the new access cards)) Not necessarily. It gives those affected an opportunity to change or upgrade their service/selections. There may...
  2. Hopper System Support Forum
I agree - you should be OK at that distance assuming you are using high quality cable. While I have no experience with the Hopper/Joey, I have run HDMI as far as 100' with some success though I would not suggest anything over 50' without a repeater or other other extender technology...

You can also set recordings, choosing which DVR, online.
  4. DIRECTV HD DVR/Receiver Discussion
All that does is keep the honest people out - like a cheap lock on a door. A determined individual will have little difficulty getting around the hidden, long SSID and MAC addresses are easily spoofed. It does, however, add another layer of complexity that might make the would be hacker move...

That is not entirely accurate... There are a lot of solar-powered wireless camera options available. Personally, though, I would still opt for a hard-wired option which is generally going to be more reliable.
  6. DIRECTV General Discussion
Why would you think the protection agreement would cover removing the old cables? That has nothing to do with guaranteeing your equipment is working. There are a lot of private and/or independent contractors that would probably do this for a fee if you are unable or unwilling to do it...
  7. General DISH™ Discussion
True, but what is the monthly receiver cost? Depending on the purchase price and how often you turn it off , it could take quite some time to recoup your investment if that is the only reason you purchase rather than lease. However if you purchase for other reasons, this icing on the cake. :)

Doesn't that then tune the SD version of the channel rather than the HD when selected?
  9. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Samrs, sorry if you took offense at my post. I was referring to anyone that deviates from the guidelines/rules as a matter of practice whether it is a HSP, DirecTV employee, an electrician, the landlord, etc.
  10. DIRECTV Installation/MDU Discussion
Which might explain how the problem happened in the first place. Once you deviate from the rules it is hard to draw the line later. I also question if the OP was fairly compensated. Sure, he has what he needs but didn't he purchase everything out of pocket with the intent to eventually take...

For what it would cost to overnight on a carrier or to pay the overweight fees on an airline, you could probably just about buy a new one and leave the old one for the next resident.

Subsidizing is a fact of life for now but how about a reality check. Based on the ESPN numbers posted, nearly 10% of my bill goes to ESPN. Add in the cost of the RSN's and the total is probably around 12%. I NEVER watch any of the sports networks. The games I want to see are almost always...

Are you sure it's a closed system? I remember a season or two ago they tried a closed system but the water was too dirty and kept clogging the pump. I also recall them digging a canal to feed the holding pond at the beginning of the season and they were afraid it didn't have the right pitch to...

There would be some gold in the tailings but most would have washed right on out to the river. Though I watch the show for entertainment, the numbers don't add up. When you look at the amount of very expensive heavy equipment they all use compared to the amount of gold they supposedly find...
  15. DISH™ High Definition Discussion
That was my tongue-in-cheek point. If Dish delivered 4 hrs of uncompressed video a day, that would make them the leader. LOL Perhaps I should have said the OP may have been referring to Dish's "downrezzing" or "HDLite" debate of times past. Personally I noticed a negligible difference...
  16. DISH™ High Definition Discussion
Could be referring to Dish's compression. However if Dish is providing 4 hrs of full, uncompressed HD each day, I think that puts them ahead of other providers! ;)
  17. TV Show Talk
The local newspaper here did a story a few months ago about how the show has impacted local storage auctions. It mentioned how crowds were much bigger and lockers were going for 10 times as much as they did before the show. Like you mentioned, it affected the hobbyists but the article...

I suspect Dave Hester will come out on top. Is there any part of his complaint that comes as a surprise to anyone that has watched more than a few episodes? I remember an episode where a production tag was clearly visible when the locker was supposedly opened for the first time (it was gone in...

Only if you are a Neilsen household That was intended to be tounge-in-cheek. ;)

I watched the first episode of "Last Resort" and liked it but had serious concerns that it appealed to too small an audience. I have recorded every episode in hope that it would make it or at least be given an opportunity to tie up loose ends and make a graceful exit. Unfortunately that doesnt...
