I put Dish on pause several months ago, mainly to see if I was going to like Sling. I got Sling Blue and the add on's for $61 a month. Add in all of free Sling, I have a better package than I had with Dish. I was paying $80 a month, but my discount was ending, so it would have been over $100 a...

Myself, I pretty much gave up with the high price of Dish, I went with Sling at $61 a month, Sling Blue and $21 worth of add on's. Added the Fire TV Recast where I get guides for 34 out of our 36 OTA offerings. For guides missing, METV & METV+, added Frndly TV that has all of the Weigel guides...

I recently switched to Sling. If you do not need locals, then Sling may be the best way to go. I have Sling Blue $40 and $21 on add-ons for $61 total. A lot less than I was paying for Flex and add on's. I have locals OTA. My Dish account in on pause for $5 a month as I still have things on the...
  4. General DISH™ Discussion
Since I no longer needed locals and I can stream the KTLA News in HD, as I had the Super stations pack, I put the account on pause mode for $5 a month and I went with Sling. A better deal for me. I am not a sports fan, so I took the Sling Blue and the 7 pack add ones, for a total of $61 a month...

UPDATE: I finally put Dish on Pause. I was told I can keep it on pause for up to 9 months now. If I need a longer time, call them back before the 9 months are back. I have the vip211k with the OTA tuner and outboard HDD. The only thing I lost were most of the channels. The DVR function still...

Right now it is a great deal. I can always cut back easily if I need to. But considering the cost to get a similar package from Dish is a lot more.
  7. General DISH™ Discussion
Sometime back I asked if I put the vip211k on vacation mode, can I watch what is recorded on the HDD. Tonight. I disconnected the antenna from the receiver and clicked over to the DVR and yes the DVR does work with the antenna disconnected. I did not watch it long, but it was playing. To be on...

If you disconnect the receiver (VIP) from the coax, would the receiver still boot up so the HDD would play? I never tried it.

By the way, is the increase to $62.99 for Flex Pack include locals? If so, it looks like that bill will go up by $3 a month.

I see that, but I was wondering about Dish. I think the only dispute they have is with Cox (KIRO), the last time I heard. KONG may be the new home of CW come next Monday I also read. 4.2 is only temporary.

Are the WA viewers going to get 4.2 Seatle for CW?
  12. General DISH™ Discussion
    That is correct.

I still have them. Have since the beginning (90s). They are still in SD. But as others have said, if they are dropped, they are gone. I could not get them back. I like having them, but I never understood why Dish did not offer them in HD. The stations in the local pack are in HD. But today...

I think Dish has those channels available for streaming.

    Thanks. Much appreciated.

I have old vip211k. I have been thinking of putting my Dish account/service on pause. If I do, will I still have access to the recorded material on the outboard HDD?

Thanks again for the good advice. What I ended up doing, is to switch to the Flex Pack/locals/supers/News Pack for $77 a month. That way I still have locals, TCM, MSNBC and BBC World (Which I did not have). Since I have Prime & You Tube for shows and movies, I really did not need all of the...

Okay on the Welcome pack including locals. I did see someone really had to jump through hoops to get the Welcome Pack. But still it only makes $10. Welcome pack $ 50+Supers $7+Movies $10=$67.

I had the same thing. Peacock may become another free service or at least some. Maybe they feel that more paid subs? I figure $20 for a whole year is not much. Dinner out would take care of that. Some MSNBC shows stream and some only have highlights. So it is not perfect.

Thanks. If I was to get the Welcome Pack at $50, adding in locals ($12), Supers ($7), and Movie Pack ($10), I would be up to about what I am paying now with not as good of a selection of channels. I was never interested in the Flex Pack as many channels I used to watch were not in that pack, but...
