I just received the new "DirecTV Customer Agreement" with my monthly statement and was shocked when I read section 2 C 5: "Up to $10.00 Change of Service Fee if you change your Service package to a lower-priced package".

With the present economic climate and job losses, has anyone actually been charged $10 to drop their package to save money?

I haven't. Guess the key is the 'up to' wording, maybe they'll do it only for folks that change packages a lot?

I thought that had always been in there.

It's there to enforce the 30 day premium rule. Basically if you add HBO for the weekend to catch enterouge and then cancel it you'll pay $10. People used to just add and remove premium services online to catch 1 show the same day. Essentially watching that show for free.

Not just for premiums, my friends. Its always been there, and I once downgraded a package, and the CSR told me I would be charged $10.00. I even posted this experience on this Forum.

I went from whatever Choice package I was with for 2 years down to Family earlier this year and wasn't charged anything.

I can assure you that this is not the norm, nor is it correct. You can upgrade or downgrade any package for $0 at any time. The only time Directv charges a $10.00 fee is if you downgrade from a package with premium services or remove premium service themselves within 30 days after adding them.:)

I've dropped premium services several times over the years and they've never charged me $10 just because I downgraded.
