2010 CES XstreamHD

I still have their T-Shirt and materials from last year at CES....yes...I plan to stop by and see "what's new".

 

And tell them I'm ready to beta test for them.

I like the sounds of self install. Finally a company that gets it!

seems really cool if it is only $10/mo, I fear that most will be PPV crap though.

 

I saw their demo at CES last January, and plan to visit them again this year.

Last year's demo was pretty impressive, but still had some glitches, even in the demo.

 

I think this is their 3rd CES now and still not much info out there.

Some of XStreamHD's advanced features include:

Pre-Fetched Entertainment - Allows users instant access to Full HD entertainment, including first-run content the second it is released by the studio.
Network Video Recorder – Includes three HDTV tuners to capture your favorite off-air HDTV programs from start to finish – regardless of schedule changes or programming delays.
RF One Remote Control – Leverages Zigbee Pro™ radio frequency (RF) technology that requires no line-of-sight.

They did their testing on AMC16. Does anyone know what their final satellite info is? I can't seem to find it. The reason I'm asking is that for me the AMC16 LOS is in the middle of a redwood tree cathedral.

I was interested in this when they first announced a few years back. Since then I discovered Vudu set top box and have been loving it ever since, it's 1080p 24fps w/ Dolby Digital Plus over the internet. The only thing missing is 7.1 lossless audio DTS HD Master.

I don't know. It seems expensive and a lot for hardware just to rent movies. I recently got a LG Blu-ray for $250 with Vudu built in for the bedroom which can also pull in Netflix as well as play movies stored in my home network.

Maybe Xtreme HD are a little too late? :whatdidid

 

It says "Broadcast programming", how does that work?

 

I spoke to these guys yesterday at CES and I got a decent amount of info..and another free T-shirt!!!

Here's the short version.

Need a dish (looks about the size of a Directv 3LNB dish)
They use 2 transponders on AMC-16 streaming approx 300 Megabits each
Need a high speed internet connection
Need the server (1 - 4 Terabytes depending on your price point) HD's are warrantied for 24 months.
Need a TV or set top box that has DLNA functionality OR you can get a set top from them that does the DLNA functions.

Movies will be available day and date with their Blu-Ray counterparts.
Movies will be PPV or purchase.
Rental window (to watch movie) will be 24-72 hours depending on studio
If you choose to purchase movie (not sure how much) It will be accessible from your server AND they will send you a Blu-Ray copy as well.
Some TV shows will be available (generally ones that are produced by studios that have agreements with Xstream) On their menu I saw CSI for example.

Popular movies will be auto downloaded from the Sat stream to your set top based on preferences you set up and past rental history. You will not pay for them unless you watch them.
More obscure or older titles that you request will be sent to your box via the high speed internet connection.

There will be multi room viewing capability as well.

They will be 1080p with 7.1 audio capability....
