I just called and said I'd read online that some ST subscribers are getting $20 off their bill for six months to help defray the cost of ST and then asked if I was eligible for the same offer. A very nice CSR took just a couple of minutes to check and then gave me the credits. Didn't have to threaten to cancel the subscription or anything like that. I just asked. After getting the Free HD for 24 months a couple of days ago, I couldn't be more pleased!

No discount love here. Guess I'll hold out a bit longer.

Honestly, I don't really mind paying $300. But I do mind paying $300 if others are paying $180.

Hey guys, short time lurker first time poster here just wanted to post my results.

I just ordered DirecTV last month so I'm within my first 30 days.
Called and spoke to Travis just now. I told him I noticed that new signups are getting free HD for life. Travis pretty much immediately offered to add a $10 discount for the next 24 months. I only had to confirm I was in auto billpay to receive that discount.

I then asked about Sunday Ticket and he looked it up and offered the 44.99 x 7 months = $315. He had to add the package to my plan to check discounts and we chatted football a few minutes while he did that. Once added, he told me there was a $10 discount for 6 months with ST. Also mentioned HD was included in this package. Since we're now buddies because we chatted football, I bluntly asked him for a $20 x 6 discount because I've heard others out there have it. He then searched and found that discount and added it to my account. We chatted a few minutes more, got it all set up and made me a happy camper.

20 min phone call earned me:
    $10 off for 24 months = $240 saved
    Sunday ticket = $195

When you call just remember to be nice to your CS Agent!

I called directv earlier and somehow I got transffered to the Financial dept. I talked to the Lady and she gave me the confirmation and said just call us in August to get your $20 for 6 months credit.. Do I trust that NO.. I might call again and talk to retention office in few days to make sure I start getting the discount right away as they would start taking money out of my account next bill i guess.

I said that I had seen the Dish ad for free HD and heard the Directv had a promotion for existing customers in response to the Dish offer.

I called today to get the 24mths HD Free and got it no problem.

CSR asked about renewing ST. I said price went up after last year and I would not renew due to increase.

I noticed online info ST on my "recent activity" on Directv.com for renewal at $0.00.

I tune to channel 112 and says "You are authorized for this program" at $0.00.

Am I assuming things or did I get a hell of a discount?

    DirecTV customer since 11/98.

Sounds like they maybe didn't apply the cancel for some reason. Mine's the same way right now... shows as $0 and channel 112 says I'm authorized. Basically just the auto renewal kicking in, I think the billing for it starts in July. I'm going to call later this month to cancel and/or get it reduced. Seems like $20 per months for 6 months discount is the going rate right now, hoping I can do a little better. (Got it completely free last year)

You probably should watch your billing to be sure that they canceled it for you. The NFL ST @ $0.00 usually appears for a couple months to warn you that the renewal is about to kick in. Then they start billing you in monthly payments.

All you expert NFL ST deal experts, would you say that it is rare for someone who is new to NFL ST (And new to DirecTV like this poster) to get the $20 x 6 off in exchange for becoming a new NFL ST sub?

No, I would just call up and say you have read that several other subscribers were able to receive $20 off for 6 months and you wanted to see if you could have the same deal.

I am now 0-2. I just hate the fact that some subs are getting ridiculous deals, and others aren't. I have been a ST sub for 7 years and they didn't even flinch when I said I'd pass at $300.

Next time you call if they say No, ask to speak to a supervisor. When I called last year I was told no, I asked for a Supervisor. I was very polite, explained to them that I read that numerous people were receiving the offer and I would like to receive the same deal. He said no problem and gave it to me immediately.

I just signed up for ST. It took me about five calls but I finally spoke to a nice lady on the phone and told them that my friend told me about the 20/6. She kept saying no and I said you just have to keep digging and you will find it after about 20 minutes she did and said I was all set. I went on to see my recent activity and it says:

    06/09/2010 XXXXXXXX2732 NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2010 HD - Charge $0.00 $0.00
    06/09/2010 XXXXXXXX2732 NFL SUNDAY TICKET 2010 - Charge $44.99 $0.00

No mention of the 20/6, my question is will this credit show up on my next bill or what?

I called up last week to cancel the NFL Sunday Ticket, and I really did intend to cancel for financial reasons. When they asked why, I told them that is was too expensive. He tried to sell me on the fact that HD is included this year, etc. The CSR then said he was going to see what they could do for me. Then he goes "Oh...I see you got the MLB deal, so I can't offer you any other deals at this time." (I got the MLB Deal where I essentially got that package, plus Starz and Showtime, for free. I didn't qualify for that deal at the time because I never received the phone call that certain customers were receiving, but I talked my way into it.)

Anyway, I wasn't surprised that he said no deal for the NFL for me, but I didn't care, because at this time anything more expensive than 'Free' is not in our budget. However, this was the first time I was shut out of a possible deal right off the bat....so it was a good run while it lasted.

My dad did get the $20 off for 6 month deal though, so I will just go to his house every now and then if need be.

It should have showed up in your 'Recent Activity' right away. I usually try to keep them on the phone until I verify that any changes were reflected in my online account.
