My wife called to get ST (my birthday present) and the lady was able to give her $15/mo for 24 months and $5/mo off the sports pack for 6 months as well as the early bird price. She didn't ask about 2Go.

    So $323 - $360 - $30 = ($67). They essentially paid me $67 to take ST.

How one can sit and watch this blows me away. I not just watch sportscenter at the end of the day or NFL Network at the end of the day. I next to never watch the Red Zone channel. I would not be offended at all if it was removed.

I enjoy watching parts of every game and knowing what's happening in each game all the time. What's not to like? Seeing all of the key scoring plays as they happen is great.

Now, I'd rather have 12 TV's going on a big wall, but that's not happening in my house any time soon, so this is the next best thing.

Because by then you already know the results of the play/game.

Don't get me wrong there must be a market for it. People seem to love it. I am just surprised that's all. I enjoy watching the games. Highlights are cool at the end of the day but no highlight channel for me. With ST and being in a fantasy league I can just switch to a game that has the ball in scoring range and not have Red Zone channel switching all over the place. I guess I make my own but. I use both tuners and pause usually so I can go back and forth between two games at a time.

I do that occasionally too, but the problem is that I can only keep track of two games at a time, so I miss quite a bit of scoring and then I have to watch Sportscenter.

So, these tactics may work for a current ST subscriber? I signed up last year when they gave me a great deal. I can't stomach the actual price of ST especially after how cheap it was last year. I'm hoping as current ST subscriber I can try and get it cheaper. Thanks.

Since you are getting $15 for two years, will that effect your chances of a deal or discount next year ? Is there a limit to number of credits they can give you for NFLST ?

I have had Sunday Ticket since 1998 and over the past several years have been able to get a reduction on price. I called them this morning to cancel it this year with the hope that I would be able to get some sort of discount off of the $334 renewal price.

The person I spoke with said that it was not listed on my account as having it or it being auto renewed. When I mentioned that I had it last year, he checked my billing history and confirmed that I did have it. However, he then went on to say "well it's no longer on your account, so you are good to go since you no longer have it" and offered no discounts.

Anyone else experience this? Suggestions on how to proceed? Call back and ask for it as a new customer and ask for discounts?

    Any help/feedback would be appreciated

#1 rule is you NEVER mention the word cancel unless you really want to. You can mention discounts, you can mention thinking about dropping it because it's too expensive, etc but you never tell the live CSR 'cancel' because as you experienced he/she may grant your wish and cancel it (I know it was already off when you called in but it sounds like that's what he probably would've done if it was on there).

You can call back and ask for any discounts to see if you want to add it back at the non-renewal rate.

red zone is a great way to watch games. They basically cut to a game when a team is in the red zone. As the afternoon wears on, they stop cutting to games that are blowouts and spend more time showing the close games, so you see more than just red zone action. my wife will even watch the red zone all Sunday and she really isn't into football.

i called in and got $20 off for 6 months. It's not a $250 credit, but i've been pretty ruthless with them on discounts over the years.... Generally always getting some kind of break from them.

It might, but I'll worry about that next year. I have had Directv since 2003 and have never tried ST.

Long time lurker, and want to thank all of the folks for the tips shared on this site.

I have been haggling the past 4 years for ST and have always received a discount, this year no different.

Call up; canx, canx in the automated system. Talk to a guy, explaining that the cost is too much for me, can't swing it this year.

Retention CSR started off with the first discount offer - $263.94 - $43.99 x6 payments ---- Nah, thanks but still too steep, have to drop it…

Second discount offer - $204 or $33.99 x6 payments ---- Better, but still too expensive…

Then; thank you for being a loyal customer and I see you have the premium package with all the Movie channels and regional sports package. I said yeah, that keeps the wife happy, but she is on my ass about the Ticket, have to drop cost somewhere and it will not come at her expense…. LOL’s and he says well let’s see what other promotions we have…

    Regional Sports pack - $10 a month discount x6 = $60
    Starz - $6.50 a month discount x6 = $39
    Showtime- $5 month discount x6 = $30
    HBO - $5 month discount x6 = $30
    Cinemax - $5 month discount x6 = $30

Total Savings off packages - $189

Original Sunday Ticket Price - $324-$309 (Package and Ticket discount) = $15 for the Ticket this year

Plus, I’m still riding the free HD service for 24 months from last year’s haggling -$10a month for the next year and they threw in another FREE HD-DVR and installation this year.

    Satisfied.

i never watch the red zone channel in the time ive had ST...i want to watch the games im interested in ONLY...plus i despise the steelers and refuse to watch them, so i dont even want to see them when the RZC blips over to their game..and since theyre usually on at 1 and RZC cuts out at halftime of the 4 pm games, theres not really a reason to watch it for me.

So your saying if you subtract the discounts ST only cost $15?

"Original Sunday Ticket Price - $324-$309 (Package and Ticket discount) = $15 for the Ticket this year"
I don't understand this if your "Total Savings off packages was $189"
Did they drop the ST price along with the package discount? They wouldn't do that for me.
Edit: maybe your saying it's 15 per month x6 payments.
