I got customer retention pretty quickly.

I currently have $33 in discounts on my bill with $10 of those expiring in 2 weeks. Also have Showtime for 3 months free. I have Total Choice, 3 DVR's, and whole home.

1st offer: Since I had Sunday Ticket from 2003 through 2007, she would give me Premiere for $89 first 3 months and then up to $115 after that. Sunday Ticket thrown in for free.

2nd and final offer: $157 for Sunday Ticket ($39.99 a month). Said she couldn't do any better because of the $33 in discounts and the free 3 months of Showtime. Sounded to be from another country. Couldn't tell as there was no delay on the phone or her typing in the background as I asked questions.

I decided to call back tomorrow and try for Sunday Ticket for free. Can't afford to spend an extra $40 a month right now for a bunch of channels I won't watch! I only want football!!!

    Well....just called back.

    Haggle, haggle, haggle, haggle.

    Red Zone Channel for free....

    Haggle, haggle, haggle...

"Sir, since you've been with us since 2003 and haven't had many discounts, I can go ahead and get you that package for FREE!"

    Okay...I'll take that one.

I won't go into specifics for each discount nor mention the taxes associated with each charge or credit. I was charged a one time fee of $323.94 and received a one time credit of $150 and total programming credits of $35 a month for the next 6 months. That equates to 323.94 - 150- (35 x 6) = - 36.06. Therefore, DTV is paying me $36.06 to watch the NFL this year. Geaux Saints!!!! Who Dat Two Dat!

Called yesterday and said "cancel" - "Cancel"....got to someone in Boise Idaho (retention or customer advocacy). After going back and forth 3 or 4times - I only got to half of Sunday Ticket (4 payments of $39.99).

What was interesting was this was the 1st year that D* actually had call screens in front of them with accurate information on my account. He was able to pull up what I had last year in the form of discounts (with detail call notes from the previous CSR's).

I could have pushed for more, but wasn't that upset with the deal. However, I am surprised at how many are getting the package totally free. It seems to be up more than previous years.

For background I've been a member since 1997. Have had ST every single year (as well as NHLCI). Auto Pay. And not under contract.....

I'm ready for the season to start...

Made my 2nd call today after calling last month and was told to cb in August. I ended up getting a full month's credit from my last call ($146) and free To-Go. I then received $20 a month credit for ST for the next six months from my call today. So all in I'm paying a total of $70 for ST which works out to $4.12 per week of the 17 week NFL sked and free To-Go. Not bad.

Got a $150 credit first time around, then read about the free offers, so called back and got it for free!:) They took away my To Go for free though to do this. Also got $5 off HBO for 6 months and free Starz for 3 months, and of course the free HD. Their offers seem to be getting better every year:lol:

I called about two weeks ago for a discount on ST. I have been with Directv for 3 years, this will be my 3rd year having ST. The first rep said to call back on the 9th, that is my billing cycle ending and she gave me a confirmation number. I called yesterday and said I wanted to cancel but was told to call and I gave the rep my confirmation number. She said call back in September when I get billed. Well, I got billed my first payment of $53.99 today. I'll be calling back soon.

About four weeks ago I called and received 59.50 in credits per month for six months to cover the monthly cost of ST. I also received a new HR24 for free. I called yesterday to see if I could get anything else. I then was offered another 20.00 off a month for six months as well as the first payment of 53.99 for ST credited . I just wanted the credits over the 6 months of ST so when ST comes around for 2012 I won't have any credits at that time aand can try to get some in 2012. I think it would of been easier for them just to give me ST for free. All in all :

    ST : 6 x 53.99 (1st payment credited) = $269.00
    Credits : 6 x 79.50 = $ 477.00
    Savings of $208.00 (35.00 a month) + $199.00 for new HR-24

408.00 in 10 minutes and 2 phone calls in my pocket.

    Thank You D*

I am a new subscriber (9 months) who missed out on the free Sunday Ticket promo last season. I called exactly as instructed by this thread. First offer was $40 / 4 months. Told him thanks but no thanks. Then he said he'll knock one payment off so it would be $120 out the door. I said that sounds like a good deal but can you throw in the NFL To Go package. He said sorry, I couldn't. Told him I would think about it and call back. He said it was noted on my account the offer he gave me and to call back 1-800-824-9081 with a pin #. I'm fine with the $120 but hope to get the To Go included on my next attempt.

Honestly if you have an offer like that on the table take it. Its much easier to call back and let them know that you were told you would get free To GO Pack with that and you dont see it on the account then it is to wait on another rep to give you a good offer.

I agree but will call back tomorrow and see if I can push my luck one more time. The retention csr rep said the offer is available for a couple days with the pin code he gave me so I assume it can't hurt to call and try again.

Got NFLST for free, plus $10 off for 12 months! He said he did that because I've been a customer for 15 years.

I called, said "cancel" at the voice prompt. I didn't mention anything about actually cancelling to the human, just told him we're paying too much and I wanted a deal on Sunday Ticket. He gave me this, I took it.

Sunday Ticket $39.99 X 4, basically NFL ST for $160, includes ToGo.
HD Extra went from $4.99 to free-this doesn't show any expiration
$25 off Choice Extra for 6MO (guy said to call when the 6MO is almost up, they'd probably extend it)-total $150
With this "math", not counting the free HD Extra, I guess you could say ST cost $10 total, OR, they're paying ME for it since the $25 off Choice Extra is 6 months and I only have 4 months of payments of $39.99 for ST.

Decent deal but I wouldn't say they are paying you for it. It doesn't matter how many months the payments and credits are over, you are paying $160 for Sunday Ticket and they are giving you $150 in credits.

So today I thought what the hell, lets see if I can get any additional discount for ST. Yep, I know got a little greedy!!!
First call, cancel route; spoke to a nice CSR and ask if there were any discounts for ST other than the auto renew price. She says let me look....well I see you're getting several discounts already...
(ME) Yes, you've been great helping me out with lowering my monthly bill, but ST is very expensive this year.
CSR...I understand, the economy is tough so let me see. Well, I see you've called several times already about this.
(ME) Yes, and I was told to call back in August....not sounding good thus far.
CSR, it seems that there is no charge listed for ST on your account, its shows a zero balance. It looks like you are getting it free this year, but let me double check....placed on hold for 5 minutes. Sir, this year it's free for you and we understand with the economy and the lock out this has been an issue so we are giving it to you for free.
(Me) Wow, this is great, are you sure. CSR, yes sir I checked with my supervisor and its free. I'll make a note on your account and if you see any charges call us back and we'll correct it for you.

I don't see it yet on my account, but my next bill cycle is a few days away so I'll double check. It pays to keep calling regardless of past discounts. Hell, I just got the other discounts on 7/28.

Free ST......Yay....fingers crossed I have no issues!!!

Update.......So now I have to call back after being told on Monday I was getting ST for free. First payment 53.99 showed up on my bill. This ought to be an interesting phone call saying "I was told I was getting it free". My only hope is the CSR actually made a note on my account or I get a good CSR. Ugh!!!!

    To Be Continued......

Yes I followed the same route and called and said "cancel sunday ticket" at the prompt. First person I got sounded disinterested so hung up 30 seconds into the call and tried again. Second time got a nice gentelman from Atlanta named Steven. He was able to get me $20 off / for six months. I said I think I could go with that if they threw in the Go Mobile package. Done!

Then somehow we got to talking about Whole Home. Inqueried about it a year ago it was just outside of my budget at the time. This time he could do it all for $99 bucks. Wasn't sure even at that price until He was able to work in some new DVRS! He gave me a free new HDDVR to replace an old HR10-250 (last Tivo in the house, first time in 10 years not to have one), I also qualified for another free HDDVR so I could use that to replace an R16. Finally threw in the OTA box (AM-21) for free also. The installer did bring two new HR24's and wow are those things nice! So I feel I got a great deal on both parts. Whole Home is totally awesome! Bring on Football!
