Well I stand corrected: I guess I was watching MLB.TV to get my daily dose of Vin Sculley last year.

I think he is saying go for free or discounted ST instead and paying for EI won't be as painful. It's easier to get free or discounted ST than the other packages.

Actually I called back again trying give another sob story "other customers are getting discounts, why can't I?".
Still no deal in EI but I took an early renewal deal on ST Max plus $10 off my monthly bill for one year. I decided too add EI after that. With MLB.TV being part of the package, there's no worry about missing feeds each night.

Hi Steady. This is not meant to be critical, but that approach rarely works when negotiating anything.

I've been fortunate enough to get discounts on EI and ST in the past, by calling and saying how much I appreciate what DirecTV provides and how sorry I am to have to consider cancelling either one due to budget constraints.

Call them back, and at the prompt say, "Cancel Service". Repeat at the next prompt.

Ask the person who answers to look through your history with DirecTV, so they understand your loyalty.

Then suggest you may have to very painfully cancel EI / ST.

If they do not offer anything on the package, ask if you are eligible for any discounts based on your package and length of subscription that might mitigate the cost of EI / ST.

Again, not picking on you, but as a rep, I would not be sympathetic to the "Everyone else is getting it" approach.

Cheers, and hope you get a better result!

No you're not being critical. In fact I received discounts when I cancelled EI a couple of years ago, but I recently added a premium package and had nothing to cancel or really wanted to cancel at this time. The rep put me on hold for quite a while (who knows what they were discussing) but in hindsight, I should have taken a different approach.

I'm pretty happy with the discount they offered and a big reason I wanted EI back was because the MLB.TV package is now part of it.

This certainly should start next week now that the NHL regular season is over.

Thanks! When I added the MLB-EI channels to my Favorites list I left off 744 somehow, ;-)

I would give it a couple more weeks, since playoff games in the first round are still televised on regional sports networks in addition to the national coverage, causing a lot of conflicts with baseball games on the same channels and resulting in multiple RSN alternate feeds being required. Once the playoffs go deeper and coverage becomes exclusive to the national channels, the number of RSN conflicts will go down dramatically and bandwidth will be available for additional feeds for MLB EI.

NBA round 1 also needs lot's of RSN alt. And NHL round 2 / 3 may need NBCSN / alt and NHLNET alt. (least year we got CSN Chicago alt 2 HD that is not on cable)

There are also reverse mirror feeds of NBCSN / NHLNET and maybe even MSNBC.

There is no excuse for the Dodger SNLA feeds: it is a standalone channel that is only presented during the game. They are just being lazy.

I called to complain and they gave me some credits. If I was a shareholder I would not be pleased.

Actually that is exactly why it isn't on right now. Channels they don't carry in general can't simply be remapped. They take up bandwidth from the pool of space they have for non full time channels. And since we are at the end of nhl and nba they take precidence in their need for space over a second feed for a Dodgers game.

There's zero reason they ever need to show that channel but they kindly do once they have the regular space.

You are correct in the logistics, but there are plenty of reasons why they would give us extra feeds. It simply improves the overall quality of the package. That is especially true of SNLA feeds given that they are a popular team and that Vin Scully is a pretty popular option among EI customers.

No Phillies feed today. They are on a local station for some reason. It's available on MLB.tv

Oh I agree, and as soon as there is room I'm sure all you out of towners that have EI will get to enjoy Vin. But I think its good to understand why at the beginning of the season that channel isn't on and why it likely will be after the first round of the nba playoffs are over.

Don't forget this past weekend they also had extra channels for the masters as well I believe. There's always extra stuff going on... And you have to prioritize something.
