Finally got a Discount on MLB Extra Innings! I called every couple of weeks (total 3 times) finally persistence finally paid off. I got to talk to someone that helped me.
$10.00 off for 6 months. They offered me the NFL package with a 20% discount, but I declined, since my contract with DTV is over in August.
I'll see what they offer then.

I wouldnt be overly happy about that myself, the PQ is worse, you can only watch 1 feed at a time on your TV instead of having all 5 tuners of a Genie recording with DirecTV, etc. I think MLB.TV being included with Xtra Innings is great but decided a few years ago that if I am ordering one, its through DirecTV. Its also nice to be able to schedule a recording right from my phone to my DVR. MLB.TV is a no go for me. The only part that seems interesting about it is when they do have the option of paying $10 more to watch streams of in market teams but since that is only on MLB.TV (it appears) then it wont really be that helpful. I would rather it unlocks them on DirecTV as well.

As you may or may not know, both the MLB and NHL apps are now being maintained by MLB Advanced Media, and they have similar user interfaces this year.

This week both apps were updated on iOS to add support for higher quality video streams at 60 frames per second, though only select video sources will be available at the higher quality.

In the NHL app, there is a new setting that controls when the higher quality streams will be used. The options are always, only on Wifi, or never, with Wifi being the default.

Oddly, the MLB app does not have this setting, or at least I couldn't find it on my iPad. Therefore, I don't know for sure when the MLB app will use the higher quality streams. Will they always be used, or only on Wifi?

I have been watching some of the recent spring training games on tv and also streaming at 60 fps, the streaming quality is excellent, I would say on par with tv or at the very least damn close. Earlier this spring games were all at 30 fps, 60 fps just started in the past few days.

I agree, the 60 fps has made a big difference in image quality. As you note, it looks just like a regular broadcast and in the case of the Brewers game Friday it looked maybe even better as the image was extremely clean(very low to no video noise), sharp and smooth with no image stutter like you get with the 30 fps feeds. The color saturation even looks better, though, that may be due to having my display calibrated this past Weds more than anything MLBAM has done. I actually gave thought to cancelling my MLB-EI package it looked so good.

I viewed the app on a Roku 3 and a TiVo Roamio Pro.

I was trying to figure out why the game I was watching today on the app looked so good. The 60fps really has improved picture quality.

I am watching on my Roku 4 through my 4K tv. The picture is absolutely spectacular. I'm going to definitely do some comparisons on Monday.

I can't get any games today via FireTV and Panasonic TV app..... the web works fine. It gets to where the game starts loading then says can't connect to mlb.tv and check internet settings.

I figured how to fix the problem by uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it. Apparently , there was an update to the app that did not get automatically pushed out to the Amazon FireTVs.

As I stated above local games will be broadcast on the Fox Sports Go App providing your teams RSN is part of the Fox Sports family. I believe there are 15 teams that are?
You must subscribe to that RSN to see the games on the FSG app. My Fox Sports App shows for Tuesday the Marlins vs Tigers game.

    Thank God!

    Here's an oddity.

I was watching the Pirates pre-game show on 659, and at exactly 10:00AM Las Vegas time, the screen went dark and a "blackout" message popped up.
So, I opened the Guide and found the game is on both 659 and 659-1.
    659-1 is in the clear.

Any reason for Root Sports to have 2 separate channels showing the game? Root has coverage in parts of 6 different states. Perhaps for local commercial spots in the different markets Root serves?

I saw Root Sports had a Penguins game scheduled for 4:30 Eastern -- my guess is that the alternate channel was live because it would have switched over for the start of the hockey game if the baseball game ran long.

A few questions regarding the use of MLB.tv, when accessed through DirecTV's Extra Innings subscription.

Is the blackout policy based on where I subscribe to DirecTV?

Or is it based on where I am physically located on any day?

I'm blacked out to 6 teams on MLB.tv here in Las Vegas, but I travel quite a bit.

So, if I login to MLB.tv in Chicago, would I then be blacked for Chicago teams and in the clear for my 6 "home" teams, based on my IP address?

Same question, framed differently. Would I be able to watch my local teams on MLB.tv if I used a VPN?
Or is my MLB.tv use based on my DirecTV zip code?

It's based on your IP address, so when you're using a device that is connected through a Chicago-area IP address, you will only be blacked out from the Cubs and White Sox on MLB.tv.

You might still be able to watch the "home" feed in that case. Some teams allow the stream in the clear this year.

Tried calling a couple times to see if they couple times to see if they could offer me any discounts and nope. I am getting like $40 off in discounts (which I'm really happy with my bill at the moment) after scheduling a cancel account appointment. I also didn't pay for it last year. So I'm wondering if those have anything to do with it. Both CSR's told me there's no discounts given on the package so far. I know that's not the case given what you guys are reporting here. I've before gotten only paying $10 over the mlb.tv package too, which is what I'd like to get this year but no dice so far. I would sign up for the mlb.tv package at this point, but only the couple things that has me balking at that right now is no PIP on the roku 3 app and no local team support (so I can watch the Marlins PIP like I can with EI). Is that worth paying full price on it? Having a hard time justifying that.

This is a bit off topic but was anyone watching the Arizona vs Colorado game last night on tv with the Arizona feed? Now I'm not sure if they've been doing this for a while or what but they were actually using a "cheering track" much like those cheezy "laugh tracks" used in lame sitcoms. 10-5 game in the last couple innings and Arizona would hit a lazy flyball and on would come the "cheering track" while the stadium was half full at best. MLB seriously needs to put a stop to this.
