I've called a few times and gotten pretty much shot down...until yesterday.

Last time I called I got an offer of half off ST but no deal on Max. Asked them to note the account and I would think about it. Called yesterday and was offered pretty much the same thing so I told the rep if they'd give me half off Max I was in. Came back and gave me a one time $180 credit and through in 3 months of the Sports Pack and 4 months of Showtime.

Given that I'm still under contract from moving last year I was happy with it. Next year I'll be out of contract and have a bit more leverage.

After my initial call and offer (Post 294) I called back twice more. The first guy would barely agree to the original offer so I called back two days later.

This is what I ultimately agreed to:

    • $50 off/month for 12 months for 1 year contract
    • $9 off/month ST Max for 6 months
    • $7 off HBO/month for 6 months
    • $7 off Cinemax/month for 6 months
    • $180 in discounts for being a High Valued Customer
    • Free Showtime for 4 months
So, in essence I got ST Max for half price plus $738 in additional discounts. Last year I got Max for free plus $480 in discounts.

One thing I did learn during my call was the rep told me that they only have a certain number of credits to hand out each week. Don't know if she meant each rep or the entire Retention area. So she said it was best to call on a Monday or Tuesday to get better deals.

Well at the end of july I ended up with this below, however I had to contact support today. As my bill statement posted, and was about $30 higher then it should of been. I ended up looking at my bill statement, and it showed like $74 rolled over from my bill paid at the beginning of august. So looking at this, and this is something that drives me crazy about directv... They applied credit's at the end of july which is when I called in this year. Well the credit's applied before my august bill was due at the beginning of this month. I have autopay setup as well, so whatever the balance was, that's what was paid. However from the looks of it.. directv's billing system makes it out as if the first time credit's shouldn't apply till the september bill. So being that I autopay, and it auto paid the bill with the discount's applied, come september bill I owe more because of this.

So I chatted with them today, and was able to get a $20 credit applied to get the bill down a bit this coming month. However we as customers shouldn't be punished when directv applies credits, and you auto pay your bill which pays your current balance posted. If a credit isn't suppose to apply till the following bill, then there system shouldn't add the credit so soon. Because then comes the following months bill with a added increase, before finally dropping back down the following month. Anyways here's the current credit's I got at end of last month, which I'm happy about. But would of been nice if I got "Max" upgrade thrown in, but didn't.

$27 off premier package for 6 months
$50 off for 12 months, with 12 month agreement
$9 off nfl sunday ticket for 6 months.

nfl sunday ticket max is $59.99 for 6 months though, So the bottom two discounts pretty much cancel out the cost of sunday ticket for next 6 months. I was hoping directv would of offered me the "Max" upgrade free, the $180 credit I seen a couple people post about, would of been even better. I honestly am happy with what I got this year, but nfl sunday ticket deal's were tricky so far this year, and only the $9 off deal was offered to most of us.

Yeah, I've had enough weirdness happen over the years that I usually don't use autopay (though I will with the move to Dish as they offer a little discount for doing that.)

Updating my post and where I was...I had posted earlier that I had set up my account to cancel service in early September when my contract was up. Had a few customer service issues and decided to call today to express my frustration nicely and see what I was eligible for now even though I have credits on my account that don't end until end of September.

    Got the movers deal:

New HR54 genie (have two 4K tv's and had first gen genie)
New HD DVR to replace an old school HD receiver I have
    Sunday Ticket Max
Choice for like 65 per month
    Movies for 3 months
Installation for free by a tech this week

Bill went down $20 per month, got free ticket max and upgraded my equipment which I wanted as well. Only downfall is of course new 2 year commitment. Will be harder to work Sunday Ticket magic next year...but worth it and we will see what happens next year.

And I am also going to call back when my credits roll off in September to just see if they will give me anymore...not likely but we will see.

My parents finally were able to get a good deal. They were really thinking about moving to Dish since it would be 85 for 2 years, whereas basically the same package on Direct would have went to 131. They offered the typical 50 x 12 with 1 year agreement and 7 off for 6 months for starz. Plus they got to keep the 30 dollar birthday credit when they called a few weeks back. Would have had them push for ST but already had it free with movers deal.

So to get ST from the mover's deal, that had to have moved sometime after the end of last season (Jan 2016). So they were still under contract? And they got this deal?

JACKPOT (for me), this is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully this helps others:

August 15th: Called in and said contract end date, got transferred to a dude. Asked when my contract was up, he said I wasn't on contract but offered me $50 off/month for 12 month agreement. I then asked about Sunday NFL ticket pricing options and discounts, he said he couldn't provide any other discounts. Most importantly to me, I asked for the RedZone channel by itself, and he persisted he couldn't do that. He recommended I call back in closer to the start of the football season. I purposefully did not accept the $50 off a month so I could use the 12 month agreement as a bargaining chip later.

August 22nd: Called in and said contract end date, got transferred to another dude. He was really nice and I explained that I had been given the $50/off a month offer but I was still unsure, because I really wanted the RedZone channel by itself, or severely discounted. He did offer me an addition $7/off a month for my HBO, I said thanks. He wasn't budging on the NFL ST pricing or the RedZone channel, but he was nice about it. At the end of the call, I asked that he transfer me to his supervisor so I could give him a compliment (full intention of also asking for a better discount). Truthfully, he deserved a compliment anyhow, but it doesn't hurt to butter up the supervisor, haha.

So I get transferred to the supervisor and explain how nice the original agent was. She appreciated that. I also said, last year I was able to get the RedZone as a stand alone channel for free if I agreed to a 12 month commitment. She went an explained all the logistics of NFL ST bundling and that sorry, no discounts were available. I then said, "you know, I appreciate that and understand, but as a business man I must ask you, are you willing to let me go be a customer somewhere else (dish) that can offer me the RedZone channel by itself for way less than ~$360? I am not demanding the channel for free, but I am not going to spend that kind of money for 1 channel." She then said, so you are willing to spend some money on the channel or ST MAX, but its just too much? I said yes, I am open to offers.

She put me on hold, 5 min later comes back and offers me:

$50 a month off for 12 month agreement
    $7 off a month HBO
Sunday Ticket MAX for $24.99 a month for 4 months (approximately $100)

    I SAID SOLD!!! Awesome! :hurah:

No I received the movers deal at my home, I was saying if I did not, I would have pushed my parents to get it and I would have went over there. Sorry for the confusion.

Consider me pleasantly surprised. After a horrible call a few weeks ago, went the "chat and pin" route and got connected to a super nice gal. Confirmed I've been around for 20 years, confirmed I am out of contract and offered up the slew of:

    $7 a month times 6 for Starz
    $7 a month time 6 for Cinemax
$7 a month times 6 for something else
$10 a month times 6 for sports pak
and the $50 per month for 12 months for a 12 month contract

Total of $786 in credits over the next year.

Downside was no deals on Sunday Ticket so she just said to watch for deals in the next few weeks before the season starts, or call back right before the first week. Even without a further discount I'll likely re-subscribe again, but she pretty much told me "no rush...just wait to see what else comes up" so I'll heed her advice.

FWIW, if you are calling and trying to get Redzone by itself, here's info that may help in the negotiation:

If you move to Dish right now, in addition to the big price discount guaranteed for two years (mine works out to about $40 per month) and the $200 Visa card, Dish is giving new customers NFL Redzone for free for the 2016 season.

Just something someone may be able to use as they negotiate.

Update to my original post: I called back today to ask why some parts of new package had been activated and others hadn't...movie channels weren't turned on but sports channels were turned off.

Got to retention and told the lady my story over the past few weeks and all the issues I had. She said, I have been with Directv for 12 years and never seen anything like this...BINGO...I knew I had someone who could make things happen.

She finally realizes that even though i received the movers deal, I didn't move. A CSR a few days before just gave it to me unsolicited. So she says, how about i give you a few more credits and we will cancel the equipment order and you will just be in the movers deal for one year...so here is what I ended up with:

    $47 in credits monthly
    Movie channels for 3 months
    Sunday Ticket Max
    One year contract only
No new equipment--decided no need for 4K genie yet...was going to have do some major wiring into my living room anyways

Same package, Sunday ticket max, movie channels for 3 months, $19 off my current monthly bill which I was fine with anyways.

    Happy guy here.

The NFL RedZone that's on other providers is different than the DirecTV RedZone in the Sunday Ticket Max package

Made my first call yesterday, was on hold for an HOUR, and finally hung up.
Reached out to DTV Service on Twitter and they did reply but I didn't have time to follow up.
Called again this morning, said "Check contract status" and went right to a rep with no hold.
Told her I was looking for a cheaper package (I'm on Choice Xtra Classic now) and she said she could put me on Choice and give me $25 off a month for 2 years, so it would be $75 a month.
Asked about NFLST, she said $9 off a month.
I told her I'd think about it and to note my account. She gave me a number and a PIN when I call back. I asked if she was in retention, she said it's called Customer Loyalty, and she is a Loyalty rep.
I know I can do better. I'm out of contract and with 17 years as a DTV sub, that has to count for something. I got NFLST Max for free last year and I would gladly pay half price this year, plus a bigger monthly discount.
We'll see what happens. Thanks to all who post here, your info is great to use as a comparison,

The hosts, Andrew Siciliano does DTV's and Scott Hanson does the other (Trivia: Both are Syracuse U. grads), plus Andrew can refer viewers to what channel a game is on NFLST, obviously Scott can't.
