You'll probably see it on your Aug 3rd bill.
It showed up on my bill that is due August 12th. Takes my bill with a Genie and two minis, Xtra programming package, nothing else, from about $129 to about $192. $129 is already too high, $192 ain't gonna happen.
I'll call on August 2 and drop ST.
My yearly deal...
I keep it where my contract expires every single year in either late August or the first week of September...this is since I have not had to upgrade any equipment and I am happy with my current set up. Next week, I will call and set up a cancel date that will be after my contract ends in late August.
Then I wait. I usually start to get phone calls in about a week and they ramp up the closer you get to your cancellation date. Last year I did this and everytime I would ask the person if they were a directv person or an ATT person. Finally got a directv person and got ST for free and good discounts.
I have called to haggle some years but am not going to do that anymore. If it doesn't workout, I will switch to cable for a year and get Redzone from them.
A lot less traffic than normal in the Sunday Tix thread at the begining of Aug.
Last year I paid 4 x $41.99 for ST Max. (And some monthly discounts for various lengths of time.)
I've been following the thread and finally made the call today. I've been with Directv since 2000, have choice xtra, HBO, and Showtime. I waited until August to call because I have $48 in credits ending this month. I said "cancel" at the prompt and didn't reach retention. I said I was concerned about my bill going up significantly with the new Sunday Ticket charge (started for me in July) and the credits ending and was wondering if they could help me out with it by looking to see if there were any discounts or credits I was eligible for (I never threatened to leave or even said that I was shopping around). She first offered me $5 off the monthly ST charge. I asked about $9 and she immediately went up to that, but then said that was the only discount she could help me with. I then asked if she could transfer me to retention and I got someone who offered me $30 off for 24 months or $50 off for 12 months with contract extension for as long as I have the discount. I took the latter. Then she said she could also give me $14 off for 6 months on HBO and Showtime. Given the other offers I've been reading about on this thread, I thought that was quite good and accepted it. Paying $215 total for ST plus $684 in credits to offset that. Wasn't quite what I got last year since they gave me ST for free and added $48 in credits for 12 months on top of that. But I'm more than good with it.
Anyone have any luck getting just the RedZone channel for free? I've been able to get that deal the last few years but I haven't tried for 2016 yet.
Just got off the phone with the best rep I've ever spoken with, a woman from North Carolina.
Red Zone Channel as a stand alone product for 2016 is not yet coded into their systems. The rep made notations that she offered it to me and suggested I call back September 1 or later to have it activated.
I made some other changes in my account and when she transferred me to another agent for "account change verification" that agent noted RZC has been offered to me and will be authorized later.
My current contract ( Premier, with MLBEI and NHLCI ) is set to expire at the end of October, and I received an email today about a free upgrade to an HR54. My HR44 is fine, so I called to see if they could give me STMax instead.
Free, I'd take it, but I had RZC free last year and that was fine for me.
I got the same line about the $9 ST discount. So, I asked about other options.
She came back and offered $50 off for 12 months and an additional 50% off movies and sports for 6 months, which comes out to $33 per month.
So, 50 X 12 = 600
33 X 6 = 198
Almost $800 discount for a 1 year commitment. And I'll get RZC, which is all I wanted anyway.
There is already an $83 credit on my account.
The new contract supercedes the old one, so it now expires in August of next year. There is a $25 per month cancellation fee for any months not used.
Long answer to your question, but RZC as a standalone will be available this year.
Hope you're right cmasia. I called the Retention Dept. Monday to see if I could get Red Zone. I've been able to get it every year since 2010.On Monday they did offer me an additional credit (have a couple from last April that expire next year) to replace an expiring 12 month credit. Got Showtime free for 4 months but they said standalone Red Zone was not offered. Checking back in a few weeks was suggested. Can't remember if it was available by August 1 other years. Does anyone remember how early standalone Red Zone became available in previous years? Could be that I called mid August or later in other years.
I got the redzone for free last year on August 11 or 12.
I previously tried to cancel NFL ST auto renew but it didn't take for some reason, and I was charged the first payment of $60. NHL Center Ice is also set to autorenew, so of course at this point the bill lists it and shows $0.00. I went to chat to cancel both, but the CSR said NHL CI is free for me this year, and NFL ST is $60 for the year, and asked if I still want to cancel. Now, I know that he's wrong, and is looking at my bill as his reference, so I said, "please confirm that NHL CI is free, and NFL ST is $60 for the entire season", and he confirmed. So my question is, when I do inevitably get charged, will I be able to use the chat conversation as evidence, and force them to give me the deals as promised by the CSR? Transcript below:
CSR: I will cancel NHLCI2016 from your account, but I see that you are not being charged for it, it is free for you this year.
ME: ok great
CSR: But I do see that you are being charged for NFLSunday ticket, the cost is $59.99, I can help you with the steps to cancel it through online.
CSR: Would that be okay?
ME: $60 is just the first payment that was charged
CSR: Actually, you were subscribed to NFL Sunday, I will help you with the steps to cancel it, once you cancel it , your amount will be adjusted on your account by next billing cycle.
ME: When I go to NFL Sunday Ticket in My Programming, it lists the price as $59.99
ME: so maybe you were right about the cost
CSR: Will you be able to login to your online account right now?
ME: yes I am logged in
ME: So NHL Center Ice is free, and NFL SundayTicket is $59.99 for the season? If that's the case I will just keep them
CSR: That's correct.
ME: great, thanks for your help
CSR: You are welcome!
Wow, this was really a pain this year. It took 3 different calls the last 3 weeks and finally got a person who was able to give me something that I thought was fair today. I did the cancel option and told them there was no way I was going to pay $360 for Sunday Ticket Max as I really only watched the Red Zone Channel. I told them I was going to Comcast as they had Red Zone as a part of the package they were offering me and they were going to add a $200 gift card to my bundle which would offset my penalty as I am still in contract thru March of 2017. She started by saying for some reason they have not released any deals on Sunday Ticket yet and most years they have been out already. She then put me on hold for awhile and came back to offer me a 1 time credit of $180 to knock half the price off of the package. I told her that probably wasn't going to work as the most I have paid the last 2 years has been about $120 for the Max. She told to me hold again and she came back to me and said she was able to talk to her boss and get me the regular Sunday Ticket for free and I would be on the hook for the upgrade to max for $15 a month for the next 6 months. She said since I would have to agree to sign a 1yr year extension, she was also giving me $10 off a month for the next 12 months. I currently have the Choice Extra, 6 boxes, and MLB Extra Innings. The only discount on my account currently was $10 off MLB for the 6 payments. I am happy with this, but it was painful getting this deal.
I don't think a CSR can bind DirecTV to any offer. When you get charged for NFLST and NHLCI under the usual renewal agreement, your transcript may serve to get you out of cancellation fees, and it may incline them to offer discounts, etc., but I think your first instinct is correct, you will get charged.
Typically the $0.00 entry appears on your bill a month or so before any real charge is there. This allows you to see it, and respond as to whether or not you want to keep it. That is how it has happened for me for many years. In your case, I wish you well in getting both premium sports package for $59.99!!
Called today to get a deal , she said you are getting it for 6 payments of $28 already, I said for Max 2016? She said yes, so I'm a happy camper. I already get a bunch of discounts, and will call back in a month to extend my sports package credit of $15 / month for 6 months.
They were a no go for me today. I got the $40 off for 12 months a couple weeks ago but they seem pretty stengy on ST deals this year. I will keep trying back in a few days.
Let me get this straight: You got ST for free, have to pay $90 over 6 months for Max, but DIRECTV is giving you a $120 credit over 12 months.
So they're paying you $30 for subscribing to ST Max and you think this is 'fair'.
I think 'fair' is paying the advertised price. Anything less than that should be viewed as a great deal.
Some of you are so focused on getting ST free that your actually missing out on a lot. Most people are getting 50 off for 12 months or 30 for 24 months. Sunday Ticket is only $270. Am I missing something with my math or if your signing 1 year contract, it would make more sense to take the 50 off for 12 months right?
Also my parents 2 year contract ended today. They called and the best they could offer was 7 off of starz for 6 months. Ummm No lol.
