It's that time of year again when DirecTV usually announces what NHL Center Ice will cost for the season. I can't wait for the season to begin...

Same here. VGK was exciting to watch last year.

FWIW, DirecTV has simply the best Center Ice package (compared to cable/Dish).

One would hope they'd kill those -1 channels. I don't recall how many SD only games there were last year, but I would estimate the number at zero.

Also, concur that DTV has the best CI package. Nobody else comes close and since NHL.tv is included any missing feeds are easy enough to find.

I also agree with what everyone is saying.

One reason I keep satellite around, for the sports.

Maybe we’ll see some more 4K games this season?

I’m still hoping for a game mix channel one day (for the NBA too) but I’m sure that’ll never happen. I know the online version has one, but I’d like to see one on D* eventually.

The CI package is a very good deal, but here are a few suggestions to make it better:

    1) As said above, get rid of the -1 channel designations. Or if they are kept, reverse them. Make 769 the HD channel, and 769-1 the SD channel.

    2) Get feeds from TSN2, home of the Montreal Canadiens. We got ZERO TSN Habs feeds last year.

    3) Designate more channels for CI. There are 19 CI channels, and most Tuesdays and Thursdays there are 10 or more games, meaning we lose feeds, mostly Canadian feeds from SN and TSN.

    4) It would be great if NHL Network NEVER shows a Hockey Night in Canada game on Saturday, thereby ensuring the entire HNIC doubleheader with bridge programming between the first and second games on Channel 769.

I've attached the complete season in an iCalendar format (I had to zip it before I could upload it).

Times were entered for Eastern but if you import this into your calendar program, they should adjust based on your time zone. I used 2 1/2 hours for length of each game.

    Some notes:
No hockey schedule 10/12/18 (Not sure why. Columbus day??), 11/22/18 (US Thanksgiving), 12/24-12/26/2018 (Christmas) and 1/24-1/27/2019 (All-Star Break. Friday 1/25 (Skills) and Saturday 1/26 (All-Star Game).

Two days have 15 games: 12/29/18 and 4/6/19 (Last day of the season).

    Of the 1,271 games:
    24.6% on Saturdays
    19.7% on Thursdays
    16.8% on Tuesdays
10% on Sundays, Mondays and Fridays and (10.6, 10.1 and 10.0)
    8.2% on Wednesdays.

It wouldn’t shock me if 10/12 was going to be the second day of the nba season and all the nba teams are playing.

Great suggestions. I agree for the most part. Not sure I would put the -1 suggestion as #1, though.

With a favorites list, I haven’t seen a -1 in my guide for years. Especially since there were 0 SD games last year (and maybe even the year before that), it’s all gain and no pain to set up the list.

I’d also suggest editing your #4 to say “It would be great if NHL Network NEVER shows a hockey game.”

Otherwise, I think you nailed it. :)

Agreed. Between the crawl, not only being distracting but forcing the picture to be distorted, and not showing the actual game's intermission, the NHL Network is the worst possible channel to watch a game.

One correction is that in the past when the NHL Network has shown a Hockey Night in Canada game on Saturday nights they do show the CBC/Sportsnet intermissions.

NHL Center Ice Pricing is now showing up on the DirecTV website. It's 159.96 for the season and includes NHL Network and NHLTV which is the streaming service.

This is a 6$ increase from last year.

I think that’s the earliest I have ever seen the price posted. It’s also still a heck of a deal even with the increase.

Not a huge Hockey fan, trying to get in it a little more every year, but wow $160 for the entire season is a great deal.

Since Directv's NHL CI package includes NHL.tv streaming. You can watch TSN Hab feeds, including the French feeds on NHL.tv.
