Last year same thing happened but they had notes that I was getting if for free, however after the statement showed up , the first installment was on the bill . it took me several calls to get someone who finally honored the notes. I had to let them charge the whole amount and the they credited the whole amount back. I hope I don’t have to go through that again but at the end of the day I did get it for free.

Just came off $30 for 12 months. Called in regular number, stated Cancel Sunday Ticket. She offered me Max for 6 month at $49 and that was it. She said there was nothing else she could do so she cancelled it. I’ll call back in a few days.

In reality, this is just another way to extend your contract. You only reap the benefits of the 'discount' IF you stay with them for 12 more months.

I talked to a DIRECTV loyalty rep on the phone last night regarding the lack of NFL offers this year and he told me something interesting that I actually wonder if it is true.. He told me the NFL dictates a lot of the specials DIRECTV is allowed to give and he said that with everything that went on in the NFL last year with the kneeling and such, he said customers were allowed to be refunded for the NFLST during the season if they requested it and that DIRECTV lost a lot of money in having to do that. He thought maybe this was a way for them to make some of it back. I just found it interesting and thought it actually added up. I personally don't think it's a wise idea to give people less deals, especially with everything that went on last year, you'd think they'd be giving more deals if anything, but if DIRECTV did lose a lot on it, maybe that's why they are being tight on the NFLST discounts this year. He did say to check back in two weeks, but at this point I am starting to think they just aren't going to do much with the NFLST this year.

Just called main number and stated cancel service. I was transferred to customer loyalty (found out later in convo) and I explained to the rep my contract expires this month and looking to see what offers are available. She was really upbeat and thanked me for being proactive in asking because most people call months later screaming about their bill.

I said my $45x12 ends and my bill will go up. I said even paying $119 now with the discount is too much with streaming services at a fraction of cost. She stated she totally understood and said again, thanks for inquiring. She quickly offered $55x12 with no commitment. I then said can you throw in ST to sweeten the offer considering I can pay less then $60 for streaming with RedZone.

Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. She said there are no deals for ST right now, nothing. She said maybe in a couple weeks closer to season and that since the merger AT&T is clamping down on ST deals.

She urged me to take the $55, saying I earned it being a loyal customer and no contract. I said no thanks because if there are no deals for ST prior to season I’ll cancel and I wouldn’t see discount anyway.

She did try and get me to downgrade my Xtra package to family or select but I said that excludes most of the programming I watch, ESPN, NFL network, etc. She stated she would make a note on my account that I want ST included in my offer to stay.

I’ll call back next week, and try again. I have a feeling free ST or even significantly discounted probably won’t happen this year.

I just posted my experience, and the rep told me the same thing. The NFL dictates any ST deals, and hasn’t released any thus far. I just didn’t include info in my post since it was long enough.

Your post makes sense seeing we got same info, and the lack of offers. In the past I’ve gotten them early as June or July. And to this point, not many if at all are getting much.

I have heard some people getting $12.25 off for 6 months with the regular NFLST and I think $16.90 off for 6 months with the NFLST MAX but that doesn't seem to be available for everyone, it seems limited and I don't really consider that much of a deal, but it is better than nothing. I guess we will see if anything comes up closer to the start of the regular season, I'm not optimistic at this point. Seems like they would have been out by now.

I agree, some have gotten a minor discount in my opinion. It seems more like the early bird pricing they used to have. Not sure why it’s not available to everyone. It is better then nothing, but I wouldn’t have taken it if they offered with my $55x12 today either.

I’m just curious why they keep telling people to call back in a couple weeks. At some point, time will run out. My impression is the deals aren’t coming this year, and my rep didn’t sound optimistic that they would become available.

I called a couple of weeks ago and I got 60 bucks off for a year but no deal on ST and no commitment. I have been with DirecTV since 1994, and where I live (rural Iowa) there is no other option other than Dish. I took the deal and used the savings to pay for Sunday Ticket Max. It truly is not worth the price they want for it but I do enjoy my NFL Sundays especially now that I am retired.

On a non-related note, I had DirecTV out Tuesday to look at some pixilation issues that I was getting in the afternoon. My SWIM-16 sat on the West side of the house and got pretty toasty on sunny summer afternoons and he diagnosed that it was failing. He replaced the LNB with the new 22 tuner model, removed the SWIM, replaced the power inserter with a new 21V model and replaced a bunch of cabling. He was right on-time and did a great job. Sometimes we only hear the bad stories, but this service call was 4.0.

I called in the other day to retention. Already had a $60 loyalty reward credit issued last month to my account and not in a contract. So the rep stated that since I had Sunday ticket last year for free and did the cancel so it would not auto renew I wouldn't get any discounts. I started explaining more how i have been a long time customer. Etc. They rep told me he could put it on my account to see if it would give the $12.25 a month discount. So he did and I accepted the Sunday ticket offer that came to around 6 payments of $36. Then he offered me a choice of Starz sports pack or cinimax free for 3 months. The rep stated as of now there are not any deep discounts. He did look at what they ran last year after the first week of the season and stated it wasn't much more than the $12.25 off each payment. But he couldn't guarantee anything . So I took the discount of $12.25 for each payment. Making the ticket to be 6payments of $36. Plus 3 free months of cinimax.

The information that the NFL dictates the deals DIRECTV can give doesn't sound right to me.

NFL sells the exclusive right to ST to DIRECTV. What DIRECTV charges and discounts they give customers should be solely decided by DIRECTV.

Why would the NFL care? They have their money.

If the NFL had any say, I would think it would be to encourage DIRECTV to lower the subscription rate and give out more deals thereby potentially generating more accounts, more advertising revenues, and more fans who then go to see games live, and who buy merchandising, etc.

Valid point, but maybe this is Directv way of avoiding offering any deals. Blame someone else knowing the info will never be confirmed.

I have to agree with you. Instead of blaming it on themselves, they'd rather blame it on the NFL. I'm sure it's AT&T controlling the NFL discounts.

Agreed. No way is this the NFL dictating to ATT what to charge for NFLST. This is ATT backing out of a practice of giving discounts for NFLST that Directv had judged to be in their best interests for years. I guess we’ll see if holding firm on the price boosts ATT’s income with NFLST or just winds up costing them subscriptions.

What I neglected to point out is that I still have one year remaining on the 2-year commitment I agreed to when I got my 4K upgrade a year ago. Between that and the fact that I'm going nowhere anyway, it's a very good deal for me. As with all things, YMMV.

DTV pays the NFL billions of dollars for the exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket. There is no way I believe that they're going to allow the NFL to dictate what amounts to nickel and dime transactions for individual residential accounts.

I agree with you. What I was saying made sense was them possibly being tight on NFLST discounts this year because according to the agent, DIRECTV lost a lot of money last year in regards to the NFLST because of them refunding a bunch of people.
