Does Directv specifically tag HLG programming? My TV is HLG enabled, but the program guide only tags programming as 4K or 4K HDR.

All Directv HDR broadcasts are HLG.

Perhaps new FW of your TV (what is a model?) will show in Info windows the HLG icon ?
Have you tested the TV HLG info with other source, like streaming, USB drive, etc ?

My Netflix program data displays Dolby Vision tags. I have not seen an HLG tag in any Netflix program description.

My Sony TV firmware is up to date. TV specs indicate that the Sony A1E is HLG compatable.

Sony 4K smart TVs only display TV resolution, screen format, and audio source. There is no TV display that identifies the specific type of decoded 4K signal: HDR, Dolby Vision, or HLG.

My Directv program guide displays only two specific tags on channels 104-106: 4K and HDR. Is anyone seeing a HLG tag in the Directv program guide?

"My Netflix program data displays Dolby Vision tags. I have not seen an HLG tag in any Netflix program description."

On my Sammy 4K set, pressing Info on the TV's remote brings up a bug in the upper left which shows time elapsed and remaining; Streaming rate (15.26 for UHD) and pixel count (2160), and Text info. I've not noticed Dolby Vision tags- where do they appear for you?

I wish all sorts of info. were available via the TV, such as bitrates for all apps and TV shows. (Amazon doesn't have such, at least not for this Sammy set)

HLG is strictly a Broadcast TV HDR format right now.. You are not going to see a HLG tag in a streaming app... Except Maybe youtube as they use another HLG Form

You are not going to see HLG in the Directv program guide it will just say HDR since HLG is a HDR Format

If your TV doesnt state the format it is in the only way for you to know it is in HDR would be if your TV video settings change for HDR mode

My TCL does HDR but not HLG..... Should I just not bother with DIRECTV 4K?

This is incorrect. For DV content, a DV badge is displayed. For both DV and HDR, once the mode is active, going into the picture settings you will see that you’re in HDR or DV.

Right, and for HDR content, an HDR badge is displayed.

Attached is a screen capture from Channel 104. While warching Directv content my Sony A1E will only display resolution, screen format and audio.

When viewing Netflix directly via the Sony smart tv app, the above mentioned badges are no longer displayed. They are replaced with the five lines of signal information provided in the Netflix screen capture.

Is there a setting that is not enabled on my Sony A1E OLED, that would provide the additional badges that you reference?

The badges are, unfortunately, not displayed by pressing by the Sony Info button. Instead, for applicable programs, they’re automatically displayed for one or two seconds st the start of receiving the signal. You can also find out afterwards by going into the picture settings.

If you’re not seeing the badge pop up for Directv HDR content (I didn’t think I got a badge for HDR, only DV) then be sure the Directv program is listed as HDR in the guide.

If you’re not seeing DV badge show up in Netflix, make sure you’re subscribed to the Netflix tier that has 4K and that you’re watching a DV program.

I am subscribed to the Netflix 4K tier. The Netflix screen capture shows 2160p as my video resolution.

The DV badge does not display via the Sony display button while watching Netflix. The DV badge will only display as a header in Netflix program listings/descriptions with available DV content.

May be stupid but do you have advanced format turned on for your HDMI ports and HDR mode set to auto

it never will. It only briefly flashes in the upper right part of the screen and then it’s gone unless you go into display settings.
