I know you were talking about that. The application is coming back as a six screen election coverage, which means we won't have to wait till 2006 to enjoy the fix.

I've got some lousy news -- the previously stable version... ain't now. Because of all the reported problems with the 5xx software upgrade, I haven't taken it yet. Now the previously stable predocessor version is acting up -- channels I subscribe to are unavailable, recording timers don't work, etc.

Called Dish -- the CSR says this will happen if you have an "old" version of the software. She said you can also lose recorded material on your DVR, and possibly even contract meningitis! (OK, I made that last bit up,)

So now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Guess I'll have to hold my nose and upgrade.

I didn't take the update yet on mine because my neighbor did and he has had nothing but problems. I noticed if I don't leave my 508 on, my timers won't fire - probably because it turns on and comes up with the message asking to take the upgrade instead of recording what I wanted. So I have left it on and timers have been fine since then. I turn it off when I don't have a timer scheduled so it can get the extended guide updates...

For the record, I haven't had any trouble on either one of my 508s since they took the upgrade. All timers have fired, and I've had no issues watching anything that's been recorded.

I think we're all talking about the same problem....

I've now seen this a few times on my 508 (but not on my 510)...

A timer record event completes, but the box thinks the recording is still in progress...

When another record event tries to start, it throws up a banner telling you to choose which event to record. But, the 1st (which isn't really running) cannot be stopped.

The fake event, also makes it impossible to change channels or power down the box.

The last time this happened to me, I erased an older event while a recording was in progress. That new recording left the box in the hung state. We'll have to see if we notice the problem only if the box is used while a recording is in progress (or in stand-by vs power-on).

No, it's not the same problem. As I said, I could not access channels I subscribe to -- in real time, no timers involved. I have AEP, but could not get the Showtime channels, Flix, Sundance, etc. These channels had a green highlight next to their names in the program guide of my 510. When I'd try to access one, I'd get a message inviting me to upgrade to this channel without a phone call. Choosing CONTINUE brought up a price list of premium channels available. Again, with AEP this should not have been happening.

I have since upgraded to P2.23 -- this ended the problem, and I have not had any other problems thus far. But you have to wonder what is the point/advantage of having the option of declining software upgrades if the "old" software will no longer work properly?

One of my 508s upgraded with no problems. The second upgraded about a week later with no problems also. I guess just the luck of the draw.

Thanks Mark... it's good to know that dish remembers that not everyone has a 921!! Even a simple list is great. So many releases have come and gone for the 5xx and the 721 with no info. Thanks for updates.
