this just started a week ago: watching the tv with this dish (722K) receiver - at different times the tv turns off. We've had this receiver for at least 2 yrs and hadn't had this problem til recently. the tv goes completely off (but the red dot on the left corner of the tv doesn't show as being off). Use HDMI cable to hook to DISH. after a little while, the tv then comes back on.... is this the receiver acting up?

I would check 722k settings, perhaps new version of FW have changed default value for using HDMI control

You might try plugging in a composite cable to test whether or not the ViP722k is still sending an image. You should also test the HDMI port on the TV with a different device or unplug and replug the DVR momentarily.

I feel confident that the ViP722k isn't turning the TV off since the TV's standby light isn't coming on.

I am NOT a real technical nut - I will try a different HDMI port/cable (thanks, harsh.) - but how do I "check 722k settings, perhaps new version of FW have changed default value for using HDMI control" (thanks, P Smith.)?

Just press Menu button and ... dig into all submenus, items... :)
It's like creating a map of game's maze.

Except that none of the rooms connect to other rooms.

You're saying the same thing a different way. Neither supports your dungeon map analogy.
